I have to admit that BF at times, has really been a hard task with my DD (who will be five months tomorrow)

The first two months were great ; great attachment, lots of milk and huge weight gain (her not me :p)

Anyway, the past three months have been a challange - she feeds every two hours (I suspect silent reflux and have been following the recommendations in regard to my diet and frequent small feeds for her - hence the two hourly feeds)

But while she is on the breast it's almost a battle, she wriggles and squirms, pushes the breast away and then cries because it's not in her mouth. Needs frequent burping and will usually feed for about three minutes...it's pretty stressful for both of us.

Anyway...............for the the past two Saturdays, my DH has taken DS and DD out to a Polish playgroup and I've been expressing milk.

The long story short...........she loves the bottle!

DH informed me that today she held the bottle by herself, drank all the milk without a wiggle or squirm and only required burping after she had finished.............this never happens when she's on the breast :crying:

I don't want to give her formula but I don't want to express for every feed...............I love breast feeding but it's so hard for both of us and today's experience with the bottle makes me feel worse.

What am I gunna do????

Only you can decide :)

Personally i wouldn't use the bottle too much, cause they tend to favour the fast flow of the bottle the slower flow of the breast and then this could lead to breast refusal.

Perhaps this is just a phase bubs is going through? I remember My DS as being like this at some stage.

Sorry i don't really have much advice but i would do what feels right. If you could breastfeed and then use a bottle at night or something.

Would feeding laying down in bed make it more comfortable?

I agree.......she only has the bottle on Saturday mornings with Daddy.

I hope so :fingerscrossed:

It used to be our favourite position but now, even lying down is no better.........it actually requires greater effort when she needs frequent burping.

Thanks for your ideas though :hugs:

:hugs: i agree with jaxcoop, i guess once you give a bottle its easier to work for so they take it.

You could maybe do both, feed her and give her bottles in between but remember you will probably end up feeding her formula all the time after a while.

Your the mummy you know best, if you are happy with her stopping give it a go, if you arent then maybe try persavere a little longer :) i know how heartbroken i was when ds had a bottle and i did top ups and it was over in a week :(

Good luck though maybe give the ABA a call to see what they have to say

The milk in the bottle is EBM - she hasn't had formula (yet)

I'll do that....thanks PB :hugs:

sorry i thought that if you were tired of expressing all the time and you were ok with giving her a bit of both rather than express 24.7 you could feed half half i put that wrong :)

Get onto the breatfeeding clinic at King Edward. Call the ABA and speak to a counsellor, go to an ABA meeting and surround yourself with other breastfeeders ;) Feeing as frequently as you describe is actually really normal. As for the fussing, it could be any number of things, teeth, wind, a very fast milk flow, aven a sore neck. Maybe a visit to a chiro would help?
Have you tried feeding her in a quiet, dim place? I know it is not always convenient but it might help. At this age babies start to get distracted and can fuss at the breast. I know my boy at this age was a freaking ightmare to feed as he wanted to see what was going on and feed at the same time. My poor nipples  Good luck with it, keep perservering.
