View Full Version : How do I Give Goodies to Underpriveleged Mums?
Baby B Loved

Hi there. I hope this will make some sort of sense...
I have bundles of baby goodies (clothes etc) that I would love to give to mums who are doing it tough. However I would like to know if there is a way to get these items directly to the mums rather than donating it to a charity that onsells it in their stores to raise funds.
I know they need the funds made from the sales, but my thinking is that a mum who is REALLY doing it tough wouldn't be able to afford to purchase this stuff even from a charity shop, so I would love to just give them the bundles directly. There is a lot of winter gear for a newborn and with it getting so cold now, I would really love to get this stuff out there.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I will ask my DH but he works in an aboriginal community and I am sure the womens shelter there would love them....I will check:)

I'm planning on doing the same thing. :)
I'm taking my stuff to the womens refuge and the youth center can't think of anything else.

I really never thought of it that way. I just took 5 bags of clothes and 2 bags of toys to red cross. I will have to keep these in mind.

Your local council may have details of programs running in your area?

Have you tried looking for organisations that target young mothers/familys, etc..
I can think of one organisation in particular that would probably be interested in something like that. It's a young womens support service. They offer counselling, housing, groups for young women, they take donations of furniture, etc..
So obviously alot of these young women have children and generally without alot of cash. So something like what you are doing would be great for them.

When I was in hospital having my daughter there were many mums who didn't have blankets or clothes or anything for their baby, said they were going to get some with the money from centrelink, that $800, so when we were finished with all our baby things I took them to the hospital. Even now I take heaps of things there because people can make rush trips to the hospital and not have time to pack clothes so it would be nice to have some there in the right sizes.
Good luck with your good deed

I'd love to give clothes etc to a womens shelter but how do I go about it?? How do I find them? They aren't advertised surely to protect the women & children they shelter...I'd need to go through an organisation wouldn't I?

Often ppl at a local church will have some contacts, I know there's a lady at mine who volunteers at a women's shelter. Or you could ring the Salvos / St Vinnies and ask them about making a direct donation. They might be open to sending them directly to a shelter for you.
Cheers
