Yeah it is pretty scary - I saw the ad in the paper this morning and thought I'd make a sticky.

So if anyone else sees anything around.... post it here. I will also try to check the Product Recalls (http://www.recalls.gov.au/) page every so often and post updates here.

I rang Mountain Buggy today and they said that only Mountain buggys with grey buttons on the handle are the faulty ones, and if you have black buttons (like mine) they are ok.

Replacements and refunds can be given.

A reply-paid satchel will be sent out for you should you wish to receive a replacement or refund, and we ask that all pieces with dislodged magnets be sent back to us for replacement, or all pieces in total be sent back to us for a refund.

Hills Play Gyms and Slides
Date: 11/05/2007
Supplier Name: Hills Industries Limited
Product Info: The product recall applies only to Hills Play gyms and slides sold between 1 December 2005 and 10 May 2007. The products have distinctive dark blue steel frames, and bright green plastic components. The bright green plastic components are embossed with a Hills logo and "Replace By" date markings between Oct 2009 and Dec 2010. The products were made available for sale through various retailers.
Defect Details: The plastic components of the affected products do not have adequate UV stabilisation and are suffering premature fading and minor surface cracking. The plastic components will therefore not have the lifespan prior to replacement that they otherwise should have. Deterioration due to UV exposure is likely to result in a significant number of cracking failures of the plastic components over the next 12 months.
Consumer action: Consumers are advised to cease using the affected products and contact Hills Industries Limited on 1300 734 323 or via the website www.hills.com.au to organise for a replacement set of plastic components to be sent to them at Hills' expense.

Thomas The Tank Engines - Wooden set!

A massive international recall could see parents snatching away their children's favourite toys.
A range of Thomas the Tank Engine toys has been coloured with lead-based paint which could be toxic if children chewed on them.

New South Wales Fair Trading Minister, Linda Burney, said chewing on the wooded pieces could be hazardous.

"We've discovered that there is a contamination with the paint, it actually has lead in it," she told 7News.

"Extreme forms of lead poisoning can cause very serious behavioural and learning difficulties in young children."

The toy's manufacturer blew the whistle on itself even though there have been no reports of illness anywhere in the world.

Its Australian importer said the voluntary recall affects only one in 200 Thomas toys sold here.

There are about 91,000 in Australian homes.

The recall only applies to a limited range of painted wooden toys made in China.

The importers of the plastic and metal Thomas the Tank Engine range said those toys are still perfectly safe.

Retailers have been asked to clear them from shelves while purchasers will be offered a bonus engine.

baby club baby patrol walker

sold exclusively at TARGET from sept. 2005

Defect Details: It has been identified that the items on the toy tray, such as the traffic light stickers and the steering wheel can easily detach resulting in a potential ingestion hazard for young children. When the tray is removed from the walker, the battery compartment may also release too easily giving a child access to the batteries.

Consumer action: Stop using the baby walker immediately and remove the tray from the walker and store it away from children. Contact Hunter Leisure on 1800 099 178 to register your details to receive a replacement tray.

well this is just dandy - we bought ds the dora talking house and the individual figurines (all of which are pictured) after the may time period. therefore it says that i should follow the prompts in the mattel website BUT then it says which country am i from canada or the US? So does this apply to us in AUSTRALIA?????

I really hope not, because my kids play with that thing nearly every day. BOOHOO!

I finally received an email back from Matell. They want me to fill out a form and post it along with the doll house back to them. They didnt say what happens next so I am waiting for another email answering my questions.
My probs with this are that I dont believe I should have to post back my DOLL HOUSE to them as I now have to find apropriate packaging for this and although its free to post it, its not free to package it.
I also dont feel safe letting my girls play with other Dora items that although arent on the list, were still bought at the same time as the affected items.
My BABY has been sucking on these lead covered toys, exactly what am I to look out for in regards to this? They didnt bother telling me that information, only that so far there havent been any injuries. So far.
I dont know how this can have happened and where it all went wrong as its common knowledge that you DONT USE LEAD BASED PAINT!!!!!! And yet, not only did the Chinese makers use the paint, but where were the safety nets to guard against this happening and being allowed to be sold? Its all well and good to recall them, but how about not letting it happen in the first place!
I am NOT happy.

Bloody hell.

I'm getting paranoid about Ava's Pooh Starlight projector now. She likes to chew his nose and there are chips of paint gone.
Whose to say it won't be the next thing recalled.

Stupid bloody companies.

From another thread:

Just letting people know that the Eezy peezy slide on sale (starting tomorrow) at Kmart for $79 has been recalled, due to the product being unsafe, and poor manufacturing!

I went to layby one today at the $129 price, so I could get in before it went on sale and it wasnt allowed due to the recall...

Apparently the swings and other products in the same brand are also or have been recalled.
