I know this has been asked a million times before, but I will ask again for me.
I would like to have a naming day for the dude for his first birthday. Do I just pick a celebrant, invite some people and cook some food? I wish I knew a celebrant here, I used to work with one who was HILARIOUS, but he has moved overseas...
Anyway, is it fun? Or should we just have a little birthday party? How about if I just invited people to his party and didn't tell them about the naming ceremony? Just spring a short and sweet one on them? What do you think?

I think it will be fun & special if you make it that way and invite people that you expect to have an ongoing relationship with the little man.
I love the idea! A beautiful way to mark the joy of your first year together and stand as a symbol of his transition from baby to little boy.
Pick a theme, and run with it. Oooooh, I am addicted to organising parties.
I am already plotting and planning for DS's 4th birthday (July) and DD's 1st birthday (September).
Can't help myself! :D

i had a naming day for tyler, with tyler i just got a celebrant had food, family and friends she has 2 godparents,,, i like the idea of not telling people but then you have the problem that people may not feel like going to a party so they miss out,, i think you should have just a naming day and then a 1st they both deserve there own day and party.......... good luck with whatever you choose to do

Do whatever you and your DP want to do:thumbsup: Amelia's Baptism was a small but lovely party and my DH and I enjoyed ourselves....to me that's the most important thing....I once went to a naming day/1st birthday where everyone had to come dressed as their favourite superhero:laughing:
It was very very fun:D

honey - on a serious note- if it is not a 'baptism' as such and is not in a church - I say run with it... do what you what when you want.... :smiliedance:
(sara - it is a modern day alternative to baptisms.... it is a different ceremony .. you can have one whenever you want!!!)

For my family it is just a modern day thing. We aren't planning on baptizing the dude, and thought it might be nice to formalise his name in a different way.
OMG I am going to die - SUPERHERO theme   . That is a brilliant idea :D .

It's a great idea, we have been toying with thidea of baptism, for the ceromonial side of things, friends family party..but it seems wrong when you don't really believe it.. would you say 9 monthes is too late for a name day?

Nope not at all. We are planning on it for the dude's first birthday. And just to compare with a baptism, a good friend of mine is having her boy baptised on his first birthday.
I agree with a baptism being wrong for some, my family and friends would laugh their heads off at us if we had one  .
