Hi Has anyone ever had a breakfast reception wedding?
I heard of someone doing this and it was nice and cheap and no one got messy drunk and they all had the rest of the day to catch up with family and friends etc.

I had a morning wedding with a lunch reception and it was hard to get a hairdresser for 7am. I ended up booking a mobile hairdresser who came to the house and did my hair, then he did the bridesmaids hair while I got dressed.

I think it's a great idea, as long as you can get the services you need - flowers early enough, photographer, hair etc.

Face it - who sleeps late on their wedding day? Getting up early is not the problem. I was awake at 5:00am, and could not get back to sleep.

 I did!!!!! It was great. We had the ceremony at 7:7:30ish and then the breakfast started at 9-9:30ish. Juices/Tea/coffee were included in continental breakfast price so you do save on drinks. We kept hairstyles etc simple.

Hi yea that sounds exactly what I am looking for, somethin simple and as I have a 4year old girl and 2year old twin boys I want them to be there not tired etc.
So what time did your reception go until and can you give me any other details??? Like did you play music and do other traditional things?

If I can remember, our reception finished by 1 (maybe earlier? it was 5 yrs ago). Mine and the bridesmaids flowers we picked up the day before - I actually just used minature arum lillies, and brought them as single stems which worked out cheaper then we just wrapped ribbon around them, simple but worked well. My sister is a qualified hairdresser/make-up artist, so had no problems in that department. Both DH and I didn't want to dance, so we skipped that part, but still had background music, speeches and a cake. We didn't get heaps of photos, and only had just over an hour for photos, so that may have been slightly rushed, I guess it just depends on what you want. Hope that helps. Have fun planning your wedding.:D

It's a good idea and probably helps keep things simple. We had a 11.30am wedding - thought it was great.

Interesting that receptions used to be called Wedding Breakfasts, I think it was either that it was the couples first meal together (well in those days it WAS!) or it might have meant it broke the fast of no hanky panky for the couple...:D

My mum and MIL both had afternoon receptions (probably in the church hall!) and had cold meats and salads - the didn't have big sit down 3 coursers unless they were really rich.

I think I've posted this in here before.
I once went to a sunrise wedding it was beautiful and they had a gourmet breakfast it was on a weekday so most people left before 9 so they could go to work.

I think when you have kids a morning wedding is a beautiful way to do it.

That way your children are alot fresher and get to enjoy the day more.

 Good luck with the plans.

We did it too  We were married on a Sunday morning, and we had breakfast/brunch with our guests afterwards - including waffles and ice cream at DH's request.

Getting up early to get ready was tough (July, was very dark and cold!) but the day was really lovely :goodvibes:

ETA: Other than the time, it was a "normal" reception in every other way - entrance music, speeches, first dance, cake cutting etc. It was all over by about lunchtime.

We had lots of different fruit juices for drinking and champagne for toasting.

We did a morning wedding on the beach. It was an 8:30 ceremony followed by brunch (eggs benedict, pancakes and followed by fresh seafood). We had a live jazz band which was great.

People still drank a fair bit - the champagne flowed until about 2pm at the venue then we went to a beachside hotel with a select group of about 20 'stayers' and continued until about 9pm that night.

It was away from home so we were all staying locally and most people had made a mini-holiday of it. All up, a long but fantastic day and as someone else mentioned, much better for kids as well as they could run around and have a ball.
