I didn't know you could in Australia? Thought it was mainly a US thing. I definitely wouldn't choose the pill over d&c...

Im pretty sure RU486 is available here, though its very hard to get, I remember there was maybe one doc in north QLD who was prescribing it, she was snowed in with patient requests.

personally I wouldnt take the pill. It also depends how far along u are, after a certain stage u cannot take it anyway. Maybe seek some advice from a GP or womens health clinic?

:hugs: This is a tricky situation:hugs:

:hugs:May I suggest getting counscelling and talking to your friends/family/GP about your situation:hugs:

:hugs:I would say a surgical termination, would be 'better' than the pill, but I do not know much.:hugs:Take care

My best friends friend just had one done. The pill apparantly maks the foetus absorb back into the body. She had this done, and then they scanned her and her tests were still showing positive, i'm pretty sure she ended up with a D&C aswell. I'd probably just go for the D&C option as you know at least that's final and it's worked, whereas with the pill there's a bit more too it and following up with it.

 the pill makes ur uterus contract & expel its contents, not absorb the fetus:confused: http://www.discoveriesinmedicine.com/Ra-Thy/RU486.html

Hi, The termination pill, is available in Australia, mainly through Marie Stopes International they have a website. But only available if the pregnancy is early, I think under 8 weeks.
You are given a drink, or injection, and then in about 2 days need to take tablets, over 2 seperate days.
I think this is a great alternative to women who do not want to go under.
Hope this helps

you can have a local if you dont want to go under. i would not advise the pill at all, i think it is extremely dangerous, you are given a pill/drink then sent home to deliberately miscarry and you have to deal with, aside from any complications, the 'products of conception'. I know it is intended to provide wide-spread access to termination services, but if you are presented with the choice I would go surgical because you are looked after by doctors and monitored after the procedure.

I think It is a personal choice, and I prefered to have the pill.
It was easier emotionally for me to do this, and is controlled. No complications, and for me was the right choice.
The clinic was fantastic I stayed there for a few hours, and was given a number to ring, in case of any problems.
I was told there was less risk of complications with the pill than surgical
So I think before you go and jump the gun, have all the facts. This is a forum which yes gives views but ultimately it is to to everyone's personal choice.

i do know a lot about abortion and im not jumping the gun but do realise it is personal choice that is why i made several references to what i was saying to be my opinion:
i would not advise...
i think it is...
but if are presented with the choice I would...

And i was mainly referring to having a pill and being sent home rather than being kept in the clinic... in your case obviously it was still safe but in some rural towns people are given the pill as a prescription and dont go to clinics at all and that is where my fears stem from.
