I was considering buring some lavender in my DS's room to help him relax and sleep.
I'm sure there is some way of doing it so that there are no candles....or flames...just not sure how.
Does anyone else do this? Are there any issues or problems with doing this?
Thanks.

You can buy an electric oil burner instead. I think they are around $40 dollars and you just plug in and put in your essential oil, no water. Or in bubs room you can just put a bowl of boiling water at the end of their cot opposite their head with a couple of drops in it. Lavender is perfetly safe for bubs, just don't over do it as too much can have the opposite effect.......and I'm sure you don't want that!!
If you have any more questions jsut pm me, my mum studies aromatherapy and I can ask her and get back to you!
Hi Mrs Little,
My DS had a little cold last week so I bought a waterless vaporizer (because IMO water & electricity in a bubs room do not mix!).
The brand is Vapor Eze and you buy sachets that give the vapor. I have only used the eucalyptus sachets so far, but there is also a nice lavender one that I will try soon.
I bought it from the chemist - around $35.00 and it has been well worth it.
You can also buy ones that fit onto your lightglobe from the body shop.it like alittle ring and the heat from the light basically burns the oil:)

All great ideas.:smiliedance:
Jembeline- could u ask your mum if lavender is the best thing for helping a bubs to relax and go to sleep...or even to relax to let wind out....and how many drops.
Is the light bulb expensive?
Thanks.

I've seen a scented baby bath which I think is lavender and advertised as to help them sleep after. I think it's by Johnson but not sure.
You could also hang something on the outside of his cot which is dipped in or contains lavendar.
The other thing I've started doing is dabbing a little bit of lavendar on the top of my breasts after my shower, it lasts really well and DS gets a whiff of it when he feeds.
He also gets congested, so when that happens I've started putting Eucalyptus on them instead. You need to use the eucalyptus smithi variety of oil.
It is very important that the oils you use are known to be from a good source and are high quality. Please don't use the cheap fragrant oils (synthetic ones you see in the discount shops). They are very very bad. Check out www.auroma.com.au and you can get high quality oils online, or buy them instore if you're in Melbourne.

Here, here!! There is absolutely no point using fragrant oils as they have no benefit whatsoever! If you do go to a health food shop or chemist make sure the oils you buy aren't stored under bright lights or ina warm area. Also, if the essential oil is ina carrier oil (jojoba/almond,etc) it isn't recommended for burning.
I keep forgetting the burning of oils...Might try that one again tommorrow...I have just finished fighting with my almost 3 yr old to go and have a sleep so I might try the lavender thing in a burner tommorrow and see if that helps.
I burn essential oils and have been since he was born and in 3 years he has only needed antibiotics once. He does get croup though but when any of us are sick I burn eucalyptis and lavender and they seem to help. Also a bit of peppermint and lemon for colds and flus.
Good luck
i saw this brand Healing Hippo in the chemist and i got their sleepy spray. its all natural and made from essential oils and i just sprayed it on my little ones cot sheets and she slept really well that night. ive been using it ever since and she sleeps peacefully.
i definitly recommend it if you are looking at aromatherapy methods.

I just put one drop of pure Lavender oil on his sheets about 20 minutes before he goes to bed. That way its not too strong when he goes to bed, you can just smell it and its soooo nice!

What a great idea Kylie3.
I'll have to have a look in the chemist and see what i can find.
I'm concerned about being over powerful with the lavender smell to start off. I thought i might burn the lavender in the dinning room first and let if drift into his room. Then after a while put it in his room.
I love the idea of the sleepy spray by healing hippo though....will definately be trying that one!
