Bad Coughs

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice regarding a really bad cough my son has :( he is 18mnths old with a pretty bad cold, the other day he brought up about 1/2 of flem. We took him to the local dr who just said its a cold. If anyone could give me any advice on this i would really appreciate itand any advice would help my son. His cold is just about finished but you can still hear the flem in his chest when he breaths and coughs its so horrible :(

My son, 2yrs old, is also just getting over a cold. He still has a slight runny nose, but it is clear now so that is not worrying to me, my dr said only to worry if it is green/yellow and doesn't get better within a few days.
He has been like this for almost a week, after fighting a pretty bad cold for almost a week before that, and only today did his horrible cough start to break. He hasn't brought anything up, but seems to be feeling better already now that the cough has broken.
I would not bother with any medicine if your son is over the cold, it probably wont do much for him anyway. Maybe try a bowl of steaming water with a few drops of eucalyptus oil in it placed under his bed at night, just remember to take it out before you go to bed.
I usually take my son to the dr if his symptoms are not improving after 3 days, this is what my dr suggested I do also. Sometimes this means we see the dr twice in one week.
If you don't like what the dr tells you, take your son to another dr for a 2nd opinion, thats what they are there for.
