What do you think about the idea of having a child care centre on base/next to the base?

I think it would be very benefitial, especially for the single Defence Parents out there.

I think for me, it would depend on which base. When we were in QLD, I never wanted to live near the base, (yuck) so we lived in a Brisbane suburb, and childcare on base would have been too far away for us. I guess if you lived quite close to the Base it would be quite useful and you would get to meet some like-minded parents etc.

it would be handy for single parent Defence personal.

I know the Army base at Enogerra has an ABC attached to it (entry from just outside the base - could even be entry from inside, but not sure on that one). I could have got my son in straight away (jumped the que) when we first posted but chose not to because I was living too far away. My friend sent her daughter there for a while - he is in the Army & she worked at one of the credit unions on base, it was perfect.

There was one on Holsworthy Barracks and I think it changed to ABC and some weren't happy with the changes.
hmm as for childcare on base at Stirling umm would be convenient for when I go to the movies or the pool during the day or even the gym if I was that way inclined. Stirling isn't quite in a convenient location and once you pass the gates, you still have to go a fair way to get to anywhere. Wouldn't be worth it for any other reason except for occasional care or for those dads who do drop offs.

There was an ABC at Puckapunyal. It was awesome. We were spoilt for our first experience, i must admit. Here in Cairns, we have found a lovely Daycare centre, but it doesn't really compare.

4 C's (Cerberus Child Care Centre) used to be at HMAS Cerberus, (in the married quarter section), I think it is still there....navy, and any tri service persone lused to get preferences, especially if both parents working.

Speaking from a personal and professional experience. It is great

I worked at the Darwin RAAF Base Kindy in 01, as a qualified childcare caregiver.

Three children later we returned to Darwin in 06' and there was a updated and newer occassional care child care centre/kindy there.

It was fantastic just to be able to have 3 hours free time to do the shopping...etc.

Both times we lived on base, was great to know the children were safe...

I Would LOVE a daycare center in Sydney that Defence paid for!!

It is so hard trying to work and having DH away adding a baby in the mix just sounds impossible but is something we are going to do very soon which means $ $ $ $ on daycare!!

ABC is great and we get priority and all that but it is also the most expensive as far as I am aware??

That's why I didn't work when #2 came along cos the cost of childcare was greater than my income.
With #1 I worked full time and put DS in family day care.

There is no way Defence would fully pay for your child in daycare. It's a great dream but it won't happen. Imagine the parents that would flock to it lol.
