I just came across this site that might be useful to those of you worried about toxins and heavy metals in our kidlets toys.
It is very American, but there were some well-known brands there (Fisher Price, etc). It says they've tested 3000 toys so far, but obviously there are far more toys on the market.

Lists the best and worst of the toys they've tested, allows you to search for a particular toy, or request testing if it's not already on the list.
