Hey there guys just wondering if anyone can reccomend a good sleeping bag for babies its really cold here and my son and i now have the flu i am really bad but he is not so bad yet had a terrible time with him last night he was waking all night but he wont stay under his blankets. not sure where to buy them and what brands are the best do they make them like adults ones but smaller or is a baby sleeping bag those things you actually dress them in sorry i have no idea
Hi keanusmum, the baby sleeping bags are usually made from fleece material, they have long sleeves, some have individual legs with enclosed feet or some have a "sewn up skirt" bottom.
I just bought a couple this week from Best & Less. There were $20.00 each and because my DS is walking, I got the ones with the feet bottom for his cot shenanigans. So far, I have put him in a singlet & nappy and then the "sleeping bag", but when it gets colder, I will put a Bonds wondersuit underneath as well.
My DS will never sleep with a blanket, so I am glad to see these bags go up to size 2 & 3 in case I need them!
Hope you get over your flu soon and you both get a good night's sleep. :)

I think the sleeping bags are the best. I've used them with all of mine :) I usually put them in a bonds suit first, then the sleeping bag over it, so toasty and warm :)

I am in a sort of a ponder as to what to do with my DS this winter.... You see we have just moved from Newcastle to Mackay so this is our first winter back in Nth Qld for 8 years! (well the first one for DS)
Ryan is a shocker for staying underneath bed sheets..... With his first winter he was still so little so we used to wrap him (ahh those were the days before he learnt he could climb out of it!!!)
Will it be cold enough for him up here for the sleeping/gro bags???

I have grobag sleeping bags for DD and swear by them. Just one thing to be aware of - they are classified as high fire danger, which I was a bit upset about when I first bought them as they obvioulsy don't widely advertise that fact. Having said that, they are made out of 100% cotton, so I dont' understand the classification, really.
Another thing, they are about $80 a pop, and you need at least two - so they it is an expensive outlay for them. however, my DD is in 6-18 month ones, I bought them when she was 8 months old, so she should get at least 10 months wear out of them and if she uses them every night for that 10 months, it won't seem so expensive then!!
Anyway, if the above are issues for you then I know of another brand which friends use and say are really good - they can be found at http://www.snugtime.com.au/ are low fire danger and about $30 a pop. So these might suit better.
Good luck!:)

Grobags come in different "TOG" ratings, which are basically heat weights - the heaviest being a 2.5 Tog and the lightest a 0.5 tog - so you might find that the lighter togs suit better. Your best bet is to go to the grobags website to read up on it - www.grobags.com.au

Where do you get grobags from? Are they available at Myer or something like that?
Howdy,
I've just started on the sleeping bag path. I purchased some from Myer which were a lot cheaper than Grobags. Grobags are $50-70 (you can buy them from www.bumpto3.com.au (http://www.bumpto3.com.au) ) The Myer ones were 100% cotton and were $20 on special. You can also get the ones that have holes in them where a strap goes so you they can wear them out in the car or pram.
We are in Brisbane so at the moment he is just in a long sleeve sleeping bag, but when it gets a bit cooler he I will add more layers to him underneath.
I hope this helps! :D

Grobags are available online from www.bumpto3.com.au and www.grobags.com.au
The grobags website also has a list of retailers by state.
My mummy made some for my kids, might have to get her to do one for Alannah, cause she wriggles so much even now, and then she wakes up whens shes cold and just screams for about 30 minutes.

When bubs was little i invested in a few from Big W & Kmart i made sure i got them heaps bigger that way not only can you use them for ages but you can also put bubs in either a wondersuit underneath or like me another polar fleece jumpsuit when the nites get rather cold ( we often get down to 5 degrees overnite here ) the other bonus for getting them bigger is for when they do grow out of them you can cut the bottom off hem it & you have a dressing gown.
This year i got the jumpsuits for Best & Less on special two for $20 & they are so cute one has puppies, the other has bears. Ive also got him a Tigger one from Target cause i love Tigger LOL but also because i could get it in a much bigger size.
Keep an eye out at Target because they get great sets with the sleeping bags where you have the little polarfleece jumpsuit then the sleeping bag pops over the top but is sleeveless like a grobag but has the hole to allow for seatbelts or prma straps to go through so tis great for when your out & it gets cold !
Oh & btw you can also get grobags at most baby stores nowadays !
just be aware that the grobags are nearly $80 bucks a pop. i just bought some from Targe for about $30 and use a bonds suit underneath and its plenty warm.

I use the BigW ones or similar as well, and they are heaps warm enough with a wondersuit or pj's underneath. I just bought one for my 2 3/4 yr DD, as she never stays under the blankets either.
My DD has never liked to be wrapped or to have sheets/blankets on her since birth, so to keep her warm during the colder months and to help in her sleeping routine, we use baby sleeping bags - I got mine from pick n pay, but you can get them from target/bigw/kmart even myer/david jones, the brand I use is snugtime They were cheaper than grobags (summer one/sleeveless/cotton was $17 and winter one/long sleeved/fleecy cotton was $30). I definately recommend them, especially if you have a little houdini like my DD:laughing:
I'd just like to say I have a sleeping bag with buttons and it is no good as bubs kicks so much they come undone so a zip or press studs is best!
I swore by these when the girls were little.
Now they're grown up (4 and 2) and sleep in real beds under their doonas. When they grew out of their last ones I had a cot doona which helped the transition to a big bed and big doona. They seldom get cold now.

These are so good they are the one thing i would recommend to all new mums without hesitation. $20 a pop at target and you're set. Our little one loves them and 8 weeks already knows that when we put it on him it's time for nigh nighs. So not only do they keep him warm but they give him and us a good night sleep too.:yelclap:
I found the ones from Big W and Target just great for ds. At the start of winter I started with light winter pjs and then bonds wondersuit underneat as it got colder.
In WA it is not quite cold enough for them yet but I can't wait till it is so I can put my dd in them, they are so snuggly.
Finding it hard for ds 2yo. Once they are walking the bags are no good. I did find a pair of size2-5 pjs at Big W with feet in them and the top buttons onto the pants, but he wore them for the 1st time last night and all the buttons came off.
Love the wondersuits but find it quite ridiculous that the hands stop folding over at only a size 0. My 2month old ds is already in 0 and winter has barley begun.

Wow, size 0 already. How much did he weigh and measure at birth? I thought Charlie was big at 4.25 kgs and 55cms but sounds like you've got a bigger one on your hands. i love that Charles is big and strong, gives me peace of mind.

If you are looking for cheaper alternatives to Gro Bags, there are some called Snug as Bug www.snugasabug.com.au that are great. I got mine for $30 and it's a good weight for autumn (we live in the Gold Coast). Some nights I put bub in suit as well but if it's warm he just wears the sleeping bag. I'm just trying to hunt some more down as Nate is getting a bit big for his now and the cooler months are approaching.
