View Full Version : Period arrived and still breastfeeding
Hi there
I guess I am after some advise or experiences from other girls.
I think my period has just started (first one since the birth of my baby) and I was wondering how it may (or may not) affect my breast feeding. My daughter is 7 months old and is only breast feed (no formula) and started solids about 6 weeks ago. I was wondering if the hormonal change will affect how she feeds or how my milk tastes. Has anyone had any experiences of their bub not wanting to feed once their period arrived?? At the moment I am feeding her 5 times over 24 hours. Thanx :D

with DS I didnt' get AF till after I finnished feeding him, with DD I got AF when she was 5mths and then again just after 7mths, she was fully breastfed at the time for both, i'm pretty sure I got mine cause DD is a shocking feeder, causing my milk supply to go up and down like a yoyo
oh and yes she did become even fussier when AF arrived, but after a couple of days was back to her usual feeding

grrr that sucks i should start to build up my supply of HPT then cause now im gonna be stressing if it doesn't show up again in a month..
Wow! That was quick - thanx for the responses girls. I did not think anyone would answer till tomorrow!!
I am the same Little Treasures. I was hoping mine would stay away for a few more months. :shame:
Thanx Gizzy I sound similar to you. My DD feeds quickly (my let down is hard and fast!) but she easily gets distracted so I am sure sometimes she does not take a full feed. I think this is why my period has arrived - I thought for sure I would not get it yet. Guess I was just hoping?
Because DD is easily distracted during breast-feeding I just hope that any "changes" does not put her off. I would love to feed her until she is 12 months old if I can. :fingerscrossed: Hopefully if she feeds over the next few days she will be OK for the next few months?

I too got my period back straight away practically and i breastfed both my boys .
Both times I have got my period back before my girls were 6 weeks old. First couple of times they were a little fussier and wanted to be fed more often (your supply can dip a little bit) but I just demand fed at it wasn't an issue after the first 2 or 3 times.
Mine are very irregular....DD1 I had AF every 2-3 weeks until she was 10 months old.
DD2 I seem to have one 26 day cycle, then 2 short cycles (2-3 weeks) but my short cycles are spacing themselves out so I'm hoping to be regular soon! She's 8 months old now so hoping!
Most people it seems to be the more feeds baby has the less AF's they have to deal with, I appear to be the opposite!

You are very lucky then! Mine were all 6 weeks after and even with fully breast feeding.
It didn't seem to affect them feeding...only when my second was 13 months and she went off feeding for a bit..turns out I was pregnant!!:D

Hi, i got mine back at 8 months and it didnt make any difference to my DS bf'ing. He stopped himself though at 14 months..well all except for an early morning one. They were regular for all that time until he stopped suddenly then they came 3 days later ( a week and a half early!) Now they seem to be sorting themselves out slowly!
Thanx everyone :yelclap:
I thought getting my period at 7 months was early!! It seems that is not the case as after reading all your posts - I am the same as alot of other girls or even later!! Thanx for letting me know. I guess it just goes to show that we are all individuals and getting your period anytime from birth on can be "the norm".
I had some spotting yesterday but nothing today. I do have period type pains tho so I guess I will get it in full force over the next day or so. Yay - can hardly wait - NOT :D LOL
