Hi mums.
I'm 22 weeks along with first bub (I'm 39 years old) and have had aching hips since about 20 weeks along. They havent been too bad but yesterday my pubic bone became sore as well. Last night i got bad pain spreading across my lower abdomen - between the pelvic bones and down to the pubic bone. It came in regular waves (like a contraction would) and i can only describe the pain to be like a really bad stitch or extremely bad wind pain, i guess. Its not wind though! It would gradually build up in intensity to a point and then subside again and come back after an interval. I still have it this morning but its not as bad as last night and bearable.
I'm wondering if this is typical of Pubic Symphysis /Pelvic Instability or if its something else going on. When it first hit i was pretty concerned but after concentrating on the pain it doesnt feel like it is coming from the uterus itself but from below and around the uterus. I felt bub kick at some stage through the night so he/she is feeling ok. I not due back at the OB for a fortnight but will arrange to if i feel like i should be concerned.

You're describing exactly the pain I've had. Monday night I thought I was having contractions for an hour at 4am - terrifying. I saw an osteopath on Tuesday and she did something mysterious with my kness and there was this very soft click in my pelvis and since then, no pain! Apparently my pubic symphasis was out of alignment. I've been sleeping properly for the first time in 12 weeks. It's amazing. I'd highly recommend it. I saw two student osteopaths at the uni clinic for $25, [under the supervision of a tutor]. One of them was 36 weeks pregnant, but both of them just knew what to do. :smiliedance:

Sounds exactly like my pelvic instability and osteoitis pubis. Its a horrible pain and sorry to say get worse unless u get on top of it. Try sleeping on ur side with a pillow between ur legs. i had this all through my pregnancy. I got refered to a physio but make sure they specialise in pregnancy! Good luck

Thanks girls. I suspected as much but just wanted to be sure. I have been sleeping with a pillow between the knees for some time now.
We live on the land and dont have an osteo nearby but will travel if i have to.
I think i actually brought this episode on myself...yesterday we did some sheep work which involved me physically trying to move some stubborn animals and also climbing over a couple of sheepyard fences :shame:. I will have to be more careful of what i do in future....my ambitions are fast outgrowing my abilities!
I'm actually feeling much better at the moment, just some dull aches. I've ordered a back/pelvis support as well which should arrive today hopefully, cause i know this isnt going to go away. Thanks again.

I had this through both my pregnancies, you really have to take it easy, I was at the physio twice a weekfrom 25 weeks. She told me to sleep with a pillow between the legs, I had 1 against my back aswell (dh had no room in the bed lol) to get out of the car with both legs together, when standing to to long to put 1 leg up on a small stool and rotate legs, when sitting on the ounge to support your back with a lumber roll. Heat packs work well I often went to bed with one. I also had a support belt which I wore from the day I fell pregnant with ds, It worked wonders. With dd By the end of the pregnancy I could barely walk.
I hope some of this advice can help you if you are to far to travell to a physio or osteopath.
Take care of yourself

Hi Spring:wave:
I just wanted to say that I also get pubic symphysis pain extremely badly when I am preggers. The pain I experience is very sharp and debilitating ( can't move!). I was just wondering you had considered that the contraction like pain may be Braxton Hicks?
I agree with the other girls that sleeping with a pillow between your knees help and somtimes a SIJ belt can help. Also try not to sit in one place for too long.
Good luck. I hope it does't get any worse for you.
