Well, as of last night we've decided to start TTC. According to Fertility Friend (which I just signed up to, and have no idea what I'm doing with it :) ) I'm on CD 13 and fertile, so we fluked it with that. Theoretically I will be ovulating tomorrow, so we better get some more practice in. :D :fingerscrossed:

Anyway, I have a few questions: one of the old wives tales for prevention that I had heard was going to the toilet afterwards. I was wondering if there is any truth to that, because I always have to pee after... practice (TMI?) and I don't want that to ruin the chances of successfully conceiving. Has anyone else heard that?

How do I tell if I'm ovulating if I don't want to bother with the temperatures and all that stuff? Are there any easy signs to look for?

When is the best time to check if I am pregnant? When does the TWW start? I'm confused with everything to do with signs and stuff to tell if I will get that elusive BFP.

Oh and Mummy-2-2, if/when you read this, try and contain your squeals of excitement, otherwise I'd probably hear them from my house.

I've always been lucky enough to be able to feel when the egg has released so when I've planned to concieve I wait for that little tell tale sign about two weeks after my period,

The last one was a surprise tho, didn't feel a thing and ovulated a week early, hence lucky number eight coming LOL

About going to the loo after...pfttt I say, I do everytime and that definately didn't stop those little squiggles LOL

Best of luck to you:thumbsup:

moonblossom: Wow! 8 children?! How on earth do you manage?

I'm glad that you both have the same urge to pee afterwards and have successfully conceived. Myth busted. :D That makes me feel a bit better about my chances of conceiving.

You should pee afterwards anyway, risk of UTI :p

Good luck! :D Have fun doing the horizontal mambo and what not.

I have no tips as it was quite easy for us, we just had sex nearly every night (Oh, going off the pill did GREAT things to my libido!) and then, bada-bang-bada-boom, 2 lines! :)

i heard that to increase your chances of conception you should lay down with your pelvis tiled up (on a pillow) for 10-15 minutes...?? I always though that this made sence as as soon as you get up gravity takes its toll on the little squigglies and the majority of them all come rushing back out!

GloomCookie
10-04-2006, 13:08
I'd heard something similar. But that doesn't really help me when I need to pee afterwards. :( Although it doesn't happen all the time, so perhaps I'll give that a go next time, bladder willing. (TMI? :D )

Thanks everyone for your luck.

I have another question. According to FF (only judging of menses) I am ovulating today. We BD in the wee hours of the morning (around 1am, TMI? :D) but I was wondering if there is a certain time that is better for increasing the chances of conception? Is it better to BD multiple times in the day (time permitting, of course  ), or is once enough?

Mummy-2-2
10-04-2006, 14:28
did you hear them? DID YOU?!!!!
YAYAY!!!!!!!

Well now you are gonna find out TMI from me:laughing:

We took Temps with T and BDd about 4 times a day:yelclap: (now he'd be lucky if it was 4 times a century!!) and also tilted pelvis afterwards. and she took about two or three months (cant remember)

With Ajay he decided to ttc, I went along with it thinking "we cant conceive if we dont do it" anywho, we did it twice, no temps, no nothing, and he was conceived within a month. (At the time I was not happy cos of the horrid pg with T)

By the way- dont make me scream like that again, I just got little dude to sleep!

Good Luck Gloomcookie. This may be way TMI but a surefire way to know you are ovulating is to inspect your discharge (you've probably already heard about this but I'll write it again). When it becomes really egg white like, you are ovulating. If you can't really tell from your knickers the best way is to use your fingers and then open your fingers apart. if it stretches all gooey and egg whitey you are ovulating. If it is still thin and runny, you aren't quite there yet.
I know I sound gross but it's the most obvious method. Our vet does this with our mares when he is determining whether they are ovulating, and it works for them as well!:D

GloomCookie
10-04-2006, 17:51
Cheers for that. I had heard about it, but not in the same amount of detail. I have noticed it appearing before, so I'll have to keep an eye on it now that I know what it's trying to tell me. :)

We're still trying. I've no idea if/when I ovulated this month. I've discovered it is very hard to listen to your body when you've been ignoring any sign but the obvious (food, sleep, toilet) for the past 23 years. Anyone got any tips of obvious signs? Please remember that I'm not using temperature things or anything else. It's just me and my body, and my partner and his.

Hiya

I conceived in Jan following the basic principal of around 14 days after the first day of your last period. We just made sure we did it each day or close to every day for about 5 days surrounding that time ie a few days either side to be sure.

Luck would have it that first go it worked. Had a m/c at 11 wks but still glad it worked! Will follow the same thing this month & fingers crossed. Just got my AF so happy to start the process again!

It depends how regular your periods usually are too. If you think they are generally 28 days then somewhere in the middle is prob about right. Just look for the visual signs also - very moist discharge. that's the biggest sign.

Good luck!

My period used to be like clockwork before I went on the pill. But a few years ago I had to come off it to get my wisdom teeth out and it's taken this long to get back into some semblance of a routine again. It's not quite back into the 28day cycle, but it's pretty damn close. I think that we timed it right with the rumpy pumpy, I suppose only time will tell now. Although if I'm not pregnant this month, there is always next month considering the timing on this month was a complete fluke. :D

Thanks for the advice.

Well... I still have no idea if/when I ovulated but my period appears to have gone AWOL for the time being. I'm assuming that the two week wait begins from the day your period was due to arrive? If that's correct, then I have 8 days until I'll be testing. I'm not sure how I'm feeling. All I know is that the past 6 days have flown by, so we'll see if the next 8 drag their feet.

I'd heard something similar. But that doesn't really help me when I need to pee afterwards. :( Although it doesn't happen all the time, so perhaps I'll give that a go next time, bladder willing. (TMI? :D )

I try to go to the loo before we bd, that seems to work for me as I always used to make a trip to the toilet afterwards.
I am trying the bum in the air theory! Not attractive and makes bd very un-romatic. I actually sleep with the pillow under my bum afterwards! Waiting on BFP at the moment if I get it then I guess I have the bum in air theory to thank!
As for Ovulating I wasn't sure and was advised to bd every second day from the 10th day of your cycle

TWW is Two week wait which is after you ovulate before AF.

Good luck :fingerscrossed:

TWW is Two week wait which is after you ovulate before AF.

Ok... So when do I test to see if I'm pregnant? According to FF my period was due on the 25th of April, with no sign of it currently. I'm on CD35 at the moment.

baby dancer
01-05-2006, 15:00
Well I am hopless and I tested before AF was due!
I think it is probably best to wait one week (hard to do) then test.
I am on CD40!! I am testing again this weekend.
How long is your cycle normally?

GloomCookie
01-05-2006, 15:04
I believe it's around 28 days. Sometimes a bit longer, but only by a couple of days.

baby dancer
01-05-2006, 15:05
Well then your AF is already one week late. I would take a test this week :fingerscrossed: . Have you got an pg symptoms?

GloomCookie
01-05-2006, 15:09
I honestly wouldn't have a clue. Terrible aren't I? Basically I've been ignoring my body for the past 23 years and wouldn't have a clue if it's been trying to tell me anything except for the basic eat, sleep and toilet signs. :)

I have been going to the toilet a lot more frequently. I guess that could be a symptom?

baby dancer
01-05-2006, 15:13
LOL  no your not terrible, I have done the same! It has only been the past 5 months since starting to TTC that I have taken any notice of my body's signs!
Frequent toilet trips is definatly a sign and a good one!
Are you tired, hungry, emotional. Sore bb's, bloated tummy, headache, snuffley nose?

GloomCookie
01-05-2006, 15:16
Well, tired and hungry are how I usually am. I don't sleep very well and we only eat 1 meal a day (very bad, I know). But I have had more frequent headaches and sniffling.

baby dancer
01-05-2006, 15:19
Well I would take a test :fingerscrossed:
One meal per day, my god I feel like a piggy I love food, can't get enough of it!

GloomCookie
01-05-2006, 15:24
I would love to eat more than one meal a day but for some reason we just can't figure out how to budget for it.

Can you recommend a home pregnancy test? How expensive are they?

baby dancer
01-05-2006, 15:29
I have heard that Crystal Clear is one of the best brands, but it is expensive I think it's about $17. I have tried Confirm - didn't really like it though (probably because it gave me a BFN) and also tried fortel - wasn't a huge fan of that either. With the fortel test you have to wee in a cup, others you simply wee on the stick. They vary in price from around $8-$20 most of them you get two tests in the pack

GloomCookie
01-05-2006, 15:36
Should I check out supermarkets or chemists for the tests?

Thanks heaps for your help. Looks like I'm going to have to try and work a pregnancy test into the shopping budget.

baby dancer
01-05-2006, 15:39
Chemists have a larger range and then at least if you want help you can ask someone at the Chemist. I have bought mine when doing groceries but I think I am going to go to the chemist from now on.
You will have to work them into your budget but when you get your BFP it will be worth it!
No worries glad I could help, let's hope we both get our BFP's :fingerscrossed:

GloomCookie
01-05-2006, 15:42

Sorry, just a question, if this is the case, are you sure you can afford a baby?

Do you already have children?

not trying to offend, just curious. :)

GloomCookie
02-05-2006, 10:54
You haven't offended me, I've been thinking the same thing. But everyone I've spoken to says not to worry about it, so we're not worrying about it. My fiance is trying to sort out work at the moment, so maybe we'll get some more $$ coming in soon.

Hi there, I too am ttc i already have a little boy and god knows how i fell pg with him, but since he was born never went back on the pill or anything and he turned one last friday!! just wanted to wish you luck! Waiting is the worst part but also very exciting and full of anticipation!

GloomCookie
02-05-2006, 18:05
Waiting is more of an annoyance than anything else. If I'd realised my mistake about what the TWW was I could have bought a tester last fortnight instead of having to wait for this one. But yeah. Good luck to everyone else that is trying. :fingerscrossed:

Have you had any more symptoms?

GloomCookie
05-05-2006, 15:25
I've been waking up rather early every morning with a very upset stomach (I'm not a vomitor - TMI?). But again, I have no idea if that's a symptom or not.

Possibly my imagination, but I believe my stomach feels slightly heavier, as well as my breasts seeming bigger. But my bra is old and too small to start off with so it's not really easy to judge from that. :)

baby dancer
05-05-2006, 15:29
Nausea is a symptom as is sore bb's. Are you having to go to the toilet more? When was AF due again?

GloomCookie

We bought the test and then my bladder had stage fright so he went out.
He came back just as I was testing, and it appears to be a BFN. So I'll be testing again tomorrow morning and then I suppose it'll be a trip to the doc, like you suggested. *sigh*

After having no sleep last night (don't know if it's linked to the neg. test yesterday), I've tested again. It's still negative. :gloomy: I bought a twin pack of Crystal Clear. I suppose the next step is a trip to the docs.

Knowing my luck my body has just tricked itself into thinking it's pregnant again. It did it once before and I skipped my period for a month, but it came back. So I suppose only time will tell. *sigh*

It doesn't feel like we've been trying forever at all. It might feel like it to him because he's wanted children for so long, but I'm really just going with the flow. If it happens, then wikid! but until then I'm not stressing about it. I'm hoping that all goes to plan because I think it'd be an excellent wedding present for my fiance.

baby dancer
25-05-2006, 15:06
Good for you that's great. I wish I was that relaxed. I get way to worked up over it. And I know it will happen when it's supposed to, yet I get myself all stressed.

GloomCookie
25-05-2006, 15:08
I was talking to a friend last night and found out that it took them 7 years to get pregnant, all because she was stressing herself out. As soon as she stopped stressing about it, she got pregnant.

baby dancer
25-05-2006, 15:12
Wow that's amazing isn't it. I have been ok this month, haven't stressed/obsessed over it as I have had lots of destractions so hopefully I can remain like this and falling pg will be easier.:fingerscrossed:

GloomCookie
25-05-2006, 15:23
It really is amazing what we can do with our minds. Stressing over it can cause us not to get pregnant, but want it too much and we can convince ourselves we're pregnant (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0689/is_n5_v30/ai_9147671), even though we're not.
