View Full Version : Family day trip ideas in QLD
Hi Ladies
My family is travelling to QLD in a month and a bit and we are trying to work out what great day trip things we should do.
The boys are 4 and 2.5
We have a car and dont mind a bit of driving, we are staying in Gold coast and then Birkdale area.
Which theme parks are best and which to avoid...
Aust zoo or Currumbin .. or both??
What else is great to do and perhaps not too expensive???
Thanks ladies :goodvibes:
Oh please help me luffly QLD'ers
:o
where is birkdale? out of the zoos id pick aust zoo although its dearer. everyone has there fav theme parks. i like sea world, movie world imo is for older kids, dream world is ok esp now with wiggles world for kids. do you have a 4wd? north stradbroke island is a nice day trip. you can drive along the beaches. you get there via car ferry.
everything is pretty expensive up here. if you did somethin everyday it would be costly. thank god for free beaches lol

I agree that Australia Zoo is better of the 2.... But make sure you get there early and leave late, as you need a whole day...
We recently went to seaworld, and DS loved sesame street beach....
Mt Tamborine is gorgeous as well as O'Reily's, they have a tree top walk and its gorgeous...
Around Birkdale, there isn't much, a small shopping centre, pub...school... But a few suburbs away is Manly, which is like a little harbour and has a beach, nice little cafes...etc

Would it be worth paying for the two days and splitting it up?

O'Reily's is near Mt Tamporine, which is closer to the Gold Coast....
check this out http://www.oreillys.com.au/day-tours/

It is a resort, but also has great bush walks...stunning views....very nice, the site link should have the information you need....And its free apart from the fuel getting there.
and this one for Mt Tamborine http://www.walkabout.com.au/locations/QLDTamborineMountain.shtml (http://www.walkabout.com.au/locations/QLDTamborineMountain.shtml)
Australia Zoo, is big, so there is a lot of walking around involved, Elephant feeding, different 'shows' to see; tiger feeding, birds of prey, croc show in the croceseum etc... so it depends on what your interests are.... And how much you like animals...as we ran out of time, and didnt get to see everything... There are also kids rides that we got stuck on, and playgrounds throughtout the park, which are a nightmare trying to get your child to come look instead of play in a playground...So others might be able to tell you what they think..personally I'd go for 2 days, but DF wouldnt...sooo....
HTH...
Thanks heaps SFM ! Thats awesome

Yeah you could do a day trip to Straddie..they have tangalooma over there where you can feed the Dolphins (if they are around)....
Thats if you are interested in that..the ferry ride over is from memory $120 return though for the car... but free if you know someone with a boat to take you over there... You catch the ferry from Capalaba, which is about 15 minutes away from Birkdale.
