Hey guys, I know there are a few vitamins I should steer clear of such as Vit A. How much is too much or should I be avoiding it at all costs?
The reason I ask is that I was looking at my Up&Go the other morning and noticed it contains vitamin A (17% of the rdi). Needless to say I was kinda ****ed off cause my chocolate up&go is one of the only things ive been able to keep down in the morning for the last week or so!
Should I just quit drinking them altogether or is some vit a ok?
*kicks the dirt*
Hi Harlequin
I'm pretty sure that the incidental amount of the vitamin that you ordinarily get from food is OK, but you have to steer clear of foods containing very high levels of vitamin A (liver is one) and taking extra vitamin A.
So I think that you're up and go would be fine, but I'd chat with your doc at your next appt.
Cheers
The recommended daily intake of Vitamin A is 1mg. Exces is stored in the liver and well nourished adults generally have enough stores for 1-2 years. Vitamin A is toxic in does of 10 or more times the normal nutritional requirement.
On the other hand Betacarotene is an antioxident and is found in vegetables and fruit, it is non toxic and there is no risk of overdose, your body converts it into Vitamin A when needed, my pregnancy multivitamins have 1mg of this in them.
I found a really good adobe acrobat file on vitamins and minerals (which is where i got most of that info from) it is here http://www.australiandoctor.com.au/HTT/display.asp?content=N0001 you have to open the few pages thoughfrom the links on this page as it is not all in one document, i highly recommend printing it out (6 pages) and reading it.
