My bub is 4 and a half months old and is having 5 bottles a day with 180ml in each bottle. He has just started to wake up twice a night now and I was wondering if I should change the amount to 240ml each feed instead? How much do you give to your bub? On the formula tins it says that 4-6 months of age have 240ml 5 times a day, but just wanted to check with other mums first!
Hi there,
if you go to your health nurse she will be able to calculate how much your bub needs. There is a formula that they use that gives you a ruff guide for how much they should be drinking per feed, they use the bubs weight and how many feeds they have during the day and so on.
Hope this helps.

The rough guide is 150 to 170 ml per kg per day. It doesn't matter how many feeds that is spaced over. Bub might only want a snack at one time of day, but a larger bottle at another time.
I started making larger bottles when DD started to finish them at a feed. I ignored what the tin said about bottle size for her age  If he's finishing the 180ml in a feed then it's probably time to offer larger ones.

I have never gone by the tin, my daughter takes x5 bottles of 210mils at the moment. Some feeds she takes the lot others only 190mils depending. My chn told me i can give her up to 240mils and she weights 4.9kgs. I just up the bottles when she is taking the lot for more then a week.
Hope that helps.
Maybe just offer some more and see if he will take it and whether it makes a difference.I dont think it will hurt. I tried offering more but he seems to have an amazing knack at stopping at 180!

My almost 4 month old drinks 4x 200ml bottles a day. If he hasn't fully finished a bottle i make 250ml in the next one which he usually finishes. So at least one of his daily bottles is 250ml.
No matter what time he is due though he has his last bottle at 10pm every night and he will sleep straight though til 9-10 am ish.
Would you be open to trying the dream feed? just top him up before you go to bed and maybe that will sustain him until the morning?? just a suggestion of what works for us? GL
