Provided there are no other conditions, breastfed babies don't need water before 6 months so long as they have unrestricted access to the breast.

they dont need it, if they have the breast offered freely there is not need :) mine never had it till they were weaned and they were 18 mths n 14 months.
JMO though :)
not till they are on solids, untill then breast milk is all they need

Definintely not this young, and probably not before 12 months :) I offered water in a sippy cup to my boy after starting him on solids at about 7months, but he never wanted it, wasn't interested in it, until well after 18months old.

Oh the good old MIL and water.
My MIL has some sort of fixation that water is the elixar of life for babies and why wasn't I feeding it to DD at 1 week old:thumbsdown:
So annoying.
When DD was eating sollids I had a drink of water there for her to have sips of if she liked. That's all.
She has a fair bit of water now, I think it's a game for her to be able to give herself a drink.

I don't think they need it at least until their first birthday. My daughter is 18 months and only getting onto water now, still though she doesn't really take it, would much prefer the breast so thats what I give her.
