The other day, I was really frustrated with Aliester (3yr old son), and I was venting to my younger sister about how Aliester is dealing with my breakup and how I'm not perfect so I can't always be a perfect and consistent parent. Then she just starts in with "well it shouldn't be so hard to be consistent." That just did it for me. I feel like its so hard sometime for other people to understand eachothers parenting skills or methods, because everyone wants to help, but each person and their relationship to their child is so intricate.
Actually, even with my friend who has a child, I have disagreed with certain ways she handles discipline, but in retrospect, I know she's doing her best.
I think everything filters into parenting because everyone was raised by a different person. Also personality differences, for example my sister is so laid back, and I used to be before I had a child, which I was trying to explain, but your patience can only go so far with little ones.
I know this paragraph is not the most cohesive, but its a vent, I guess I need to let some steam out! Choo Choo! LOL

Hi Sarah,
Does your younger sister have kids?
Most people without kids don't really have a true understanding of what it's like when you're dealing with the day-to-day little things like tantrums, talking back, being unappreciated etc.
AND it's a whole other story when you add to that being a single parent!

It's a shame your sister didn't show a bit more empathy. You were entitled to vent for sure!

No parent is perfect - every day I feel bad 'cause I could have handled situations better with my almost-3-yr-old.
I put a 'handling discipline' reminder note on my fridge that says:

" stay calm (no shouting at him!)
low tone voice (yes I watch Supernanny!)
remain in control!"

We should be feeling pleased with ourselves at the end of each day - we have one of the hardest jobs of all!
