Hi
I am very new to this and in fact this is my first ever post!!
My DH and I have been TTC #1 and I went of the pill mid Jan this year - I had one cycle that lasted 39 days and then my AF came. Now I have found out I am pregnant but I am unsure of how far along.
My GP seems to think 6wks but a blood test last Wed showed HCG level of 500 and something (can't remember exactly) which he says is low and that it may mean a not strong pregnancy and a miscarriage. However my calculations would have me at around 4wks as my cycle was so long last time and I have never had a 'normal' 28 day cycle.
I have bood test for next 3wks and a scan in 2wks time but I am so unsure!
Has anyone else had similar happen to them?
Sorry post so long but need someone to talk to!
thanks

Having an ultrasound will be able to determine approx your dates. If the GP has booked it for 2 weeks than I'm sure that will be fine. The early scans are good for dating, congratualtions on your pregnancy!!!

Hi Mrs Dolphin,
I'm new to posting as well, and also don't know when I'm due.
I got 2 + HPTs last week, after feeling sick and having other pregnancy symptoms for just over a week. We just weren't expecting this to be happening cause we didn't think I was having a cycle at all. I went off the pill last year. The first cycle lasted about 30 days. The second 45 days. That was last December and I haven't had a period since. I was nearly up to the 100 day mark, which is when I was going to see a specialist - if nothing else just to get some answers. My doctor just kept telling me I had plenty of time and just wait for my cycle to correct itself. That's really frustrating to hear when you are ready now and if there way ANYTHING I could be doing to correct it, I wanted to know.
Anyway now I've had 2 +ive results and am dying to find out how far along I am. I'm hoping and thinking I'm 4-6 weeks cause I've been feeling nauseous and other things for 2 weeks. Let me know how you go.
:fingerscrossed: Hi ,
Was just reading your post, and it sounds like you really really need
to get an ultra sound. I am not sure how it works if you are not a private
patient but I went at 51/2 weeks to my obstetrician and he did a scan and
straight away he could tell me how far along i was. A blood test really
can't tell you much and you must be going crazy with all the unknown. An obstetrician can even do an internal scan (I think its called trans-vaginal or something :( ) in the very early weeks and he will be able to tell you everything
and put your mind at ease. Definately ask to get a scan - i hope you get some
answers soon.

Yeah- you do need to get an ultrasound- and before your 10 weeks will give you the most accurate dating- I'm fairly sure (though you'd have to check with your GP) that they would bulk bill you for the ultrasound. I had my first at 10 weeks- it was bulk billed- which is good. And it wasn't transvaginal - though I have had one of them as well, later in my pregnancy- not bad- not nice but nothing like a pap smear.
Let us know how far you are!!

Hi Everyone
Thankyou all so much for replying! I am really trying to stay positive and everything else seems to point to me being only around 4 1/2weeks or so so that must be a good thing!
I am going to book the scan tomorrow for Saturday week so will let you know how it goes!
On top of all this I found out that I am RH Negative too so that is an added thing to deal with!
But thanks again for your support!

Hi
I didnt know I was pregnant til I told my mum the syptoms I was having and she gave me money to get a pregnancy home test and it had the positive two lines. So I waited 3 days and went to the doctor on feb 3rd 2006 to get a real positive.
My GP got me to do a urine test and that came back positive and took a blood test and sent for it as urgent so i could get the results that day of seeing the GP. The GP phoned with the results and the blood test came back positive. I made another appointment on 9th feb to find out how far I was...the blood test said I was 6-8 weeks pregnant.
After awhile I decided to have a ultrasound to find out exactly how far i really was...the ultrasound said I was 9wks and 6 days that day was 28th feb.
Now since ive already had two appointments at the health/baby clinic, the doctor that i had asked when was my first day of my last period...which was the 9th december. The doctor worked out I was 16 weeks.
Only thing im curious about is what dates should I go by...the ultrasound dates or the doctor for my pregnancy check-ups?

If you've had an early scan- then it should be resonably accurate. How much difference is there between the doctors dates and the ultrasound dates. If it was me I would pick the dates that say you are the least amount of weeks- that way you will reduce the risk of inducing an early baby...that's laymans advice though, just my own personal opinion

if I went by the ultrasound dates then I'll be 16 weeks on thursday but if I go by the doctors dates i'll be about 17 1/2 weeks. Im going by the ultrasound and i'll let the doctor go by her dates.

I think the US is pretty acurate isn't it? I hope so anyway cos I am just counting down the days to I have mine on the 22 April - I have everything crossed all is well in there with bubs! It's funny how you get attached to them at such an early stage!
All the best Babyfan85 I hope all is OK with your little bundle!

Babyfan- If it was me- I would be going by the US dates- it's only about a week- so it's not going to make too many problems. It's so exciting everyone having babies!!

Hi all,
I'm new as well and also unsure how many weeks along I am.
My doctor confirmed that I’m pregnant with a urine test similar to what I had done at home which was positive. I’ve had all the usual symptoms. We are not sure whether I am 6 weeks or 10 weeks, as the last time I bled was 6 weeks ago but it was more like mild spotting and only for 2 days. She didn't order any blood tests, just gave me a referral letter for the antenatal clinic and a form for an ultrasound requesting '1st timester/dating' and 'nuchal translucency'.
Does anyone know if you need to have blood test results (eg for dating, rubella immunity etc) before you make your appointment at the antenatal clinic? It sounds like the first thing they want to know before making an appointment is when you are due.....which I don't know!
Also she warned the ultrasound is quite expensive, though some is refunded through medicare. Does any one know when I should be having it done?
I'm feeling a bit confused and overwhelmed.

Coogeemum- I'm sorry that you're feeling overwhelmed!
As for the expense of the ultrasound- my 1st trimester scan was bulk billed- are you a private patient? If it isn't bulk billed you will get quite a bit back from medicare. Could you call the place where you are going and ask them if they bulk bill and if not how much it is? Or how you go about getting it bulk billed?
I'm trying to remember- I had my bloods done before I went to the antenatal clinic- I remember going back to the doctor to get my ultrasound results-
They test your blood just to check your levels- like iron etc and to see if you have any diseases- it's nothing to worry about too much.
You don't have to have any screening tests if you don't want to- but that's something for you to decide.
If you need any info on pregnancy or birth etc, don't hesitate to PM me- I'm training to be a doula- so I love to help!!
Congratulations on your pregnancy!!;)

Thanks Kylie!
I’m feeling much better about things today. Have booked an ultrasound for 2 weeks time to check how far along I am AND booked for my first antenatal visit at the hospital in 6 weeks time. It's the earliest appointment they had free, no matter how many weeks I am. I’m going public even though we took out private health insurance as we missed the 1 year waiting period by 2.5 weeks!! How is that for bad timing? Very happy to be pregnant though. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone on bubhub.

Hi Everyone
Well I had my US today and all is good!! We saw the little bubby's heart beat and sac and yolk and all was good! HB is 110 per min which we were told is great! :smiliedance:
So relieved and it's soo exciting!
I was told I had 2 cysts on right ovary though...one the normal pregnancy one and another one with some fluid but the Sonographer didn't seem too conerned about it.
Anyway that's my great news for the day!!
