Ok girls... I have been using cloth for a couple of weeks, and received my wonderful package of nappies from the wee wuns - YAY! One minor problem - my fiance refuses to use them  ... First he said he would if I got the fitted ones which I did, and I tried explaining how they work, and he just isn't interested... I was so cut when he changed his nappy and bubs came wondering out with a sposie on... How can I encourage him to use them??? How do your partners go with them???

I did the same as Sopolicha. Put the ones I had away and left him with no choice. Then came the wipes issue. He would use the commercial ones where as I have been using the muslin ones that I sewed up. So I put the packet ones in the nappy bag that lives in the car and he can never be bothered going to get them, so he now has to use the cloth ones!:D

I guess im sorta lucky just as much as unlucky LOL.
When i started making the change over it got to the stage due to an injury my partner can no longer change bubs nappies but he was all for me changing. Well sorta LOL he wasnt convinced at first but when i got them & he saw how easy it was etc he fell in love ! So he changed them a few times with no dramas but now its my full time duty. So at least i have an excuse for buying more LOL.
Did you get pockets or what style ?
I found that when i showed my partner the pockets he was happier with them as they are just like a disposable.
But i would definately hide the disposies ! He will have no choice then :p :devil6:

I leave the nappies all ready to go so all DH has to do is pick one up and put it on bub...doesn't always work, I only have flannalette flats, so that means pins and if bub is wriggly DH wont use them, he's hopless  I'm sure if we had fitteds he would be fine...now, just gotta figure out a way to get him to change nappies more often

Oh yes there will be tears & tantrums !
I found having say the AIO's & pockets stuffed & ready to go makes life easier for them you know cant do two things at once n all :p
At least if you can con him into using/trying those types he may allow you to buy more which would be great right :D

I don't know what to suggest.

My DH folds all my flat nappies for me, and puts them on to wash for me before he leaves for work. He hates disposables as much as I do.

Other men cope with low tech nappies!

I think mine changed a total of about 4 disposables on Vallerie, and that was in the first week when it was all still 'new and exciting' So I have absolutely no expectations of him helping at all with the new baby. No expectations=no disappointments.

But yes, just stop buying the sposies, or put them where he can't find them. Or just be thankful he's helping at all! :D

Dont get me started on the whole men and cloth thing  . Mine refuses to use them too no matter what deal we come to he always has some excuse. I even offered to change all the poo ones but he STILL finds a reason not to use them and has a hissy fit if there are no disposables in the house. What can a girl do?:o

I guess I am lucky, I use only pockets and my husband is more than happy to use them. I have them packed and ready to go and he thinks they are just as easy to use as disposables. He tells more people about them than I do!

Considering that modern cloth nappies (fitteds, AIOs, pockets) go onto the baby in exactly the same way as a disposable, and also taking into account the fact that it is illegal to leave poo on a disposable (it's amazing how many people don't realise that it's illegal to put human waste into landfill!), there is literally no difference in the procedure of changing a nappy using modern cloth than the correct procedure for changing a disposable - ie: remove nappy, dispose of any poo in the toilet, put disposable in bin/put modern cloth in dry pail, put on new nappy.

Get rid of your disposables so he has no choice, and just educate him on the ease and convenience of modern cloth - as well as the longterm money saving aspect. :) I can't understand male partners who have issues with modern cloth - I can only assume it stems from a misconception related to what is actually involved. Also, having a soft, cosy cloth nappy on your bum has got to feel nicer than stiff paper/plastic filled with chemicals. Maybe let him know that. ;) Then there's less nappy rash (if changed often enough) - and the gosh darn cuteness of a lovely cloth bottom! What's not to love? :p

proudmumma, a pocket is a nappy with a hollow inner (the "pocket"), that you can stuff full of whatever boosters you choose to use in the nappy as the absorbent core. It does up just like a disposable does (using snaps or velcro), and when it's time to change it, you simply remove the inner stuffing (so no dampness/mold issues - you always know the inside is clean) and chuck the stuffing and the nappy in your dry pail until it's time to wash. Some people even reuse the nappy with fresh stuffing before washing it. They are slimline, highly absorbent (because you can make them as absorbent as you want), and come in such beautiful designs - I love them! Definitely my nappy of choice.

my DP was a bit iffy about me wanting to switch DS to cloth nappies. but i assured him we would be using fitted ones coz i cant remember hwo to fold a terry flat for anything  he was a bit sceptical at first but he now he says its easy to check if DS is wet. DP calls fitted cloth "cloth dispables"

My DH has no problem with cloth nappies, but I would

a) ditch the disposables all together then he has no choice
b) go for an easy to use system for him, either AIO's or prestuffed pockets. I personally prefer the AIO's I could never get pockets to work for us, but heaps of ladies love the pockets.

Good luck.

I just tell him thats what he has to use! :D

I do have the pockets all stuffed and ready to go for him though........and I do let him leave the pooey ones for me to sort out. (He does have to change them, just doesn't have to empty them.)

He is pretty happy with that!

Oh, I know what you mean. I remember the first week or so when Liv woke during the night, Dh would jump out of bed and come to my side, all ready and armed with wipes, nappy and bag to pop nappy in. Now when she cries in the night all I hear from Dh is

I am lucky, if she needs to be changed any other time, he has no problem doing it. We havent made the full transition yet, but I cant see it being a problem. I daresay it will be my job to empty though.

But, I would hide all sposies or tell your dh that your little one outgrew that size and you aren't buying any more.
