i would like to cut down on the amount of red meat we eat but the kids and dh arent into lentils and chickpeas even though i dont mind them...............
Does anyone have any filling recipes that also dont revolve around pasta too much as i feel we eat too much of that aswell.........
And to be a pain No curries or spices and not too oily as my gallstones will give me hell

Most of my dinners probably involve curries or pastas, but some other meals I love are vegetarian stir fries, onion, brocoli, carrot, capsicum, snow peas, zuchini are probably the main veges I use.. I usually put cashews in most of my stir fries.. rice & soy sauce. Sounds kind of plain but really yummy. Usually cashews in with curries or peanutty type sauces though.
Vegetarian Nachoes with red lentils are delicious... I eat vego burritos alot. Nothing beats a home-made vego pizza
Actually my favourite stir fry involves: lentils, peanut butter, sundried tomato flavoured pesto, brocoli, carrot, zucchini, onion & rice. Prob sounds weird but also very yum.
Homemade fishcakes, I had these for lunch yesterday and they are yummy, the kids will like them too!
1 tin tuna or large tin of salmon
1 onion
1/2 loaf of old bread.
2-3 eggs
chopped parsley
salt and pepper
oil for frying.
Blitz bread in food processor until you have about 3 cups of breadcrumbs. Blitz onion and parsley until finely chopped.
Drain fish.
In a bowl mix all together with 2 eggs to bind. (add an extra egg if too dry) Should stick together easily but not be too sloppy.
Heat frypan to med-high heat and put a thin layer of oil in the bottom.
Make small patties and cook on each side until golden brown.
Serve with corn on the cob, sweet chilli sauce and a salad.

Some of the girls are doing the 30 day PETA vego cahallenge- there is a long thread in the enviro section that has plenty of great vego recipes and vego products. I am vegetarian and my kids have never had meat, but they LOVE sanitarium vego sausages, "bacon," and '"hot dogs." They are in a product range called vegie delights in the fridge section. In the freezer section there are vegie delights burgers, schnitzels etc which are very yummy. Birds Eye have frozen vego nuggets, fingers and patties. They are just crumbed vegetables basically, not a soy product and have never known anybody not to like them.
We eat a lot of: zucchini slice, (6 eggs, 1 cup of sr flour, i/2 cup olive oil (but you can get away with just a splash,) 3grated carrots, 2 grated zucchini, tin of corn, cup of cheese and anything else you want to chuck in. Bake for 40 or so mins til firm.)
Vego lasagne
Spinach pie
My kids love salmon rissoles, like the recipe posted above. I don't eat salmon but they love it.
Cous cous with roast vegies, garlic, cheese evn an egg. You can get the organic boxed stuff which is already flavoured.
Stir frys I chuck in splash of olive oil, cashews, maybe some vegie susage, bacon. Same with fried rice. There are loads of pre packaged recipe bases now, some are meat free, (like Teriyake chicken meal base strangely!)
Kids love puff pastries with roasted vegies, cheese and bake beans folded up in pastry and baked in oven. YUMMMMMY! Great for fast no fuss dinner, even just baked beans and cheese.
We do eat a lot of pasta, but you can mix it up with fettucini, pasta shapes, cheese & spinach angalotti or tortellini- coles brand is meat and rennet free.
Puff pastry triangles from supermarket- vegetarian, cheese & spinach or cheese & ricotta. Serve with potato bake or rice.
Vegie burgers, tacos or burritos (I use sanitarium vegie delights mince or not chicken/soy fillets.)
PM me if you want any actual recipes but I think you will find PETA challenge thread helpful!:)

Ask for a product called TVP at the health shops. (It is available in the supermarket but at about 4 or 5 times the price)
Soak it in hot water to rehydrate it and you can make it into bolognese sauce that is indistinguishable from a meat based sauce.
