View Full Version : What books to read.
Can all you training and qualified Doula's enligten me on the books you have read to help with your career? I am currently reading "Birth Skills" by JuJu Sundin and have another one "Labour of Love".
Im after "The Doula Advantage" but have to wait for it to come into stock.
Is there anything in particular that you would recommend?
Thank you!

Oh so many!!! :D
Anything by Sheila Kitzinger
Birthing from Within - Pam England
The Birth Partner - Penny Simkin
New Active Birth - Janet Balaskas
Spiritual Midwifery - Ina May Gaskin
The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth - Henci Goer
Birth Reborn - Michel Odent
Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering - Sarah Buckley
That's a short list off the top of my head....I am sure others will come along and fill it out.
I have picked up a few of these on EBay reasonably cheaply and some from Amazon (if you buy a few the postage works out OK).

All the ones on cara's list and....
The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth - Henci Goer
This is awesome. It's a really handy reference for the pros and cons of most interventions...I use it alot and I usually offer it to mum's to use when they're thinking about their birthplan.
Ina May's Guide to Childbirth - Ina May Gaskin
Active Birth - Janet Balaskas
Classic book can't go wrong with this one
Childbirth without Fear: The Principles and Practice of Natural Childbirth - Grantly D!ck-Read and Michel Odent
BIRTH REBORN: What Childbirth Should Be - Michel Odent
The Pink Kit - Common Knowledge Trust
I use this alot. The information in it is just so common sense and practical that couples really "get" it easily - yet there is nothing else out there like it. You work through it and just scratch your head that this stuff isn't "taught". I thought it was expensive to buy at $100 but I use it in my prenatal sessions and both me and clients have well and truly got my money's worth many times over :)
