View Full Version : Winter in Brisbane?
We moved to Brisbane from the hunter valley earlier this year. I'm wondering how cold it gets here in winter?
Origianally from Adelaide, Winter days can average around 11 degrees. I've also lived in Townsville where people were wearing jackets when it was 27 degrees.
DS doesnt really have any warm clothes but I need to get some, just wanted an idea on how warm I should go.
Ahh, don't you just LOVE the weather RIGHT NOW
In answer to your Q, it doesn't ever get really cold here. The lowest max daytime I can think of would be around 9 and that's pretty unusual - normally 15-17. But the thing is that it's always sunny, so provided you can get out of the wind and in the sun, you can still get toasty warm.
My kids have long sleeved t-shirty things and the occasional wolly jumper, cardy or jacket. I would personally not bother buying serious winter coats unless you were travelling somewhere cold during winter (Stanthorpe / Towoomba / Bunya Mtns). I bought a parker and have not used it with either DD.
Cheers
Being a born and bred Brisbanite I would say, most winter days are perfect, in the sun you don't even need long sleeves. Once the sun goes down I personally rug up. If you're at a bbq or something outside at night then I think a nice warm jacket is necessary.
My kids all have big fluffy jackets, me too, my hubby who grew up in Kingaroy (substantially colder in winter) only wears long sleeves on winter nights, occassionally a jacket.
When the westerly winds blow through around July it's pretty cold though...
With all this being said, my hubby does think I'm a frog!

I agree with Xkwzit - DS had a big woolly coat last year and we only used it once at a night-time BBQ.
We did make sure he had heaps of long sleeve shirts, singlets and cardi's/jumpers though - oh..and a beanie for his cute little ears :) and big fluffy slippers of course

Yep agree with the others.
It is really cold at night and first thing in the morning.
We have to open the windows to let the heat in of a morning cos the house just freezes overnight.
But during the day it's gorgeous.
I wouldn't be buying anything big and heavy IMO. Just a jacket to throw on if you're outside.
But I do wear my flannies at night-time, in fact I had them on the other night when we had that cold snap (but the next night I was back to shorts and singlet),
It also depends on where you are living. If it is around the outskirts there can be cold spots. We live just outside Brisbane (by 10km) and we regularly get a temp of 0, frost and at times down to -3. I would stick with the basics, that the others have suggested and see how you go.

Hi There!
Just saw your thread - how ironic! We moved here from the Hunter Valley last June when our little one was just 2 months old. The winter here was such a contrast! We went from having the fire going all day and night in Pokolbin to wearing shorts and a T-shirt here! The nights do get chilly for the little ones tho.
Hope you're enjoying Brissy!
Regards
