finaly a couple had a home invasion, woke up to a gun in their face then hid in bathroom while the ******* rummaged thru the house

Yeah me and my DF were talking about all of this crime the other night it is so dodgy nowadays and scarily unsafe makes you wonder about years to come when our kids grow up. We were saying how the legal system is so light it seems and that there are just to many crims recommitting crimes and not learning lessons. You just really wonder what goes on inside these sicko's heads but will never really understand completely too many innocent people get hurt it just aint fair!!

It shouldnt be called news, it should be called tragdies, or sadness, or something, you very rarely hear good stories

Yes I saw that on the news tonight and all i could say to my husband was "What is this world coming to", " How could anyone be so cruel". It makes me sick.

Yes, I saw that too! Wasn't it shocking! Poor lady! The post office one was also just as shocking. I was even thinking, just the other night, how violent society is becoming. It was news report after news report with nearly every item being about some form of violence or assault earlier this week. I had to turn the news off. What is hapening in our community?

In Toowoomba recently, where I live, a man broke into a home, sexually assaulted a young girl in her own bedroom and left. The parents, who were asleep in the next room where woken up by a noise but didn't think it was anything, so went back to sleep. Awoken by another noise, the mother got up to see what was up and found her young daughter in the garden, extremely upset and the offender nowhere to be seen.

... Theres that, and the fact that hardly a weekend goes by here without an armed robbery or assault of some sort, that makes me really regret moving here.

I know we had just sat down to dinner & I said to DH I really think that its time we stopped watching the news but then again I feel the need to know whats going on in the world so I guess you just take the good with the bad, unfortunately the bad is outweighing the good by far these days.

it makes you wonder what sort of world our children will be living in when they are older doesnt it?

It is sad and heartbreaking.

I guess its because we do watch the news, because we have the urge to see/hear what ishappening in the world around us. BUt the media companies shouldnt be posting that sort of news at the 5 oclock or so. maybe the late night news, only because we shouldnt be exposing our kids to that! they wonder why crime rate has increased. Those offenders now probably watched horrific news back in their hayday when it was just starting out..

Down with the media company for choosing those type of stories :shame:

I have myself stopped watching the news, and ACA and TT, i cant stand it anymore, that and the fact i do not want my 4 year old son witnessing the scenes on tv.

It was either Saturday or Sunday night last week that every capital city in Australia had either a stabbing or a shooting.

This country is no longer the typical Aussie, everyone loves ya mate place it once was and that is sad.

So many horrible things happen to people, I just don't watch the news anymore - I hate it - at least a few years ago they used to end with a feel good story, these days there just aren't many of those left happening!!

What's even worse is that the news doesn't report ALL of the crimes that happen. So there are loads of people out there being victims of crime that we just don't hear about.

I can't watch the news anymore either. It makes me feel so sad.

Long gone are the days you can let your kids play out the front or down the street.

It's really scary when you think about it, I thought Australia was one of the safest places to live...

I sleep with my mobile phone under my pillow and a baseball bat under the bed because I'm scared someone is going to break in, my DP works night shifts, so I spend alot of night home alone with the kids.

What is the world coming to?
One of the core problems in my opinion is that our justice system lets people get away with crime too easily.
It's far too sloppy a system to be a real deterrent. That is why all these horrible things keep on happening. People who do these devious things get a slap on the wrist these days. A small fine and a warning is not enough.:shame: The punishment needs to fit the crime.
People who rape & murder people are out of jail in no time :devil6: when they don't deserve to be.:banghead:
I think they need to consider bringing in more serious consequences for these crimes.
