Hi. Just wondering if theres anyone out there in bubhub who have children (or partners!) who have been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy??
i used to work with disabled children, many had c/palsy
and my best friend has cerebal palsy. i have known her for 25 years. all i can do is give you a bit of her story. the cerebal palsy affects her speech, walk and hand movements. it made it hard for her to keep up in speed for writing at school. some choose to get computers but she stuck it out with writing. she completed year 12 at school. is now a mum and works as a book keeper part time. has been engaged twice and has lead a very fullfilled life. hope you get answers soon:hugs:
Hi my DS has a form of cerebral palsy. He uses a Kaye walker to walk and his speech is a little slurred but everything"up top" mentally seems to firing on all cylinders :)
Does your little person have cerebral palsy?

Hi Peta. Ds father's brother had/has cerebral palsy. When he was younger he had both of his legs in cast-type things. Now he is 23 and the only problems he seems to have are that he can't really bend his ankles, like when driving, etc, and he walks on his toes a bit.

Thanks for replying lucyp! My DD Alex has alot of problems, including what they think is cerebral palsy but they cant give her that diagnosis because of all the other health problems going on.
Alex doesnt walk or talk or chew food yet, but she can cruise and eat puree's. She started bearing weight at 14 months and is now 21 months.
We are seeing physio and ot on thursday to talk about equipment ect, and pead in 2 weeks, plus our gp is helping do up a full report on alex's issues to send to a pead rehab center to try and find a proper diagnosis.
Alex has had an mri which showed full brain function, which was such a relief, so now its just trying to find a full diagnosis. Its frustrating that she cant have CP as a dx as it would really put us in line for a lot more help iykwim
hey peta
They have basicly said with miki that she has atributes of CP but a CP diagnosis would not explain all her birth defects and other issues, so are stil looking a for a syndrome, the neuro said in terms of therapy yes she is aftected by CP but its not her official DX

DS2 (2 1/2) has CP, right side hemiplegia.
Was diagnosed around 9 months when he started to crawl and was fisting his right hand instead of spreading out his fingers.
He copes with most things fine - has trouble with the small stuff like buttons and zippers cause he just doesn't have the finer skills to control his hand for that. And walks with a bit of a limp.
But other than that he manages and nothing holds him back. :smiliedance:
My little girl was born at 26 weeks 550grams.
The term cerebral palsy was mentioned several times to me regarding my daughter however no-one would diagnose or committ either way. I will told they generally don't diagnose until 18mths - 2 yrs old when a child doesn't reach key milestones?
She was sent to a Neurologist and just recently diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy, she is now 2yrs and 3 mths old (nearly 2 yrs corrected).
What does this mean long term??? I don't know only time will tell I suppose???

Hi, my bub Amelie (not so much bub now! 2 and1/2 yo) was diagnosed at approx 5 months..right side affected only) we found she wasn't grabbing at anything with right hand. our wonderful, observant gp sent us for an xray to rule out any breaks etc, then she said straight out - prob cp (could have knocked us over with a feather!)- we were referred straight away to fantastic paediatrician, who got the ball rolling so quickly for us. we have been part of the centre for cerebral palsy (WA) since she was 9 months old. we do pt and ot regularly, she is extremely active - really it hasnt stopped her at all, she was walking by 14 months. her speech DEF is not affected (got a real chatterbox here). Amelie has just done her 2nd round of botox (this time both her arm and leg) and the results are amazing - i just cannot believe how loose her arm is after the botox - now we work on her strength during this time!
she is a gem - as is everyones darling little bubbas..
they keep us all pretty busy right?! :)
I just think the earlier/sooner you can get into the therapy, the better..it has worked for us!
