I'd say there would be a Tweed Hospital and also John Flynn is down that way too - I have heard its a really good hospital to give birth at.

I don't have any details - but I'm sure quite a few of the other Gold Coast mums will pop on and give you some more details about John Flynn - I think it is private though.

Then there is Gold Coast Hospital at Southport - public.

Pindara at Benowa - private.

Yep, John Flynn is a private hospital. I had my babies in Tweed hospital and thought it was fantastic. Its only 5 mins down the road from Coolangatta.

Oh, and when i had ds i had an epidural;)

Ive heard nothing but wonderful things about Tweed Hospital, it's a public one. I know a few people who have had bub's privately at John Flynn and highly recommend it.

Thank you ladies.. You have been a great help. Do know if you need to be referred from a local GP around that area if you are transferring from another hospital?

Thank you

as far as I know, all you have to do is ring them up to organising birthing there, I don't think you need a gp referal, but i'm sure they will tell you if you do when you ring them

hi i had dd 2 at tweed hospital and was absolutely wonderful there we lived in sydney for first 7mths of pregnancy and moved up here 2 months before she was due , all we had to do when we arrived was phone them make an appointment at tweed and take all your test results scans all info so far etc to our first visit and didnt need a referal.
but that was 2 yrs ago now so things may have changed? if you give tweed hospital a call im sure they would let u know what to do :D

I can't speak from personal experience but i know one Gold Coast nurse who travelled all the way to Byron / Mullumbimby for the birth of their child because they wanted

Quote: 'the best possible care available in the local area'.

There's a (wee bit) of a difference but I'd never eat in a chinese restuarant that has no chinese customers *G*

If you are looking around too, Murwillumbah isn't actually that far from where you are and it has the most fantastic maternity ward. People dont want to leave LOL!

I was born in Murwillumbah hospital but I can't tell you what it is like :D

I had DD at Tweed Hospital & although my birth was horrific the actual hospital is great  I had my own room(as did all my friends that have been there) for private you can't go past John Flynn
Good luck :)

I have had three babies at Murwillumbah which is located close to the Gold Coast and the Byron area. It is very friendly with great midwives. There are three birthing rooms and one has a magnificent view of the Tweed Valley. A midwife antenatal clinic has just commenced. I would highly recommend it.

I had DD1 in Southport , but then I had DD2 & 3 in John Flynn Tugun. It was great there as they were both prem it was great to have my own room, so I could pump etc. They even wheeled her in the UV lights into my room so I could be close, and they baby sat her on last night so I could go to a friends Wedding. It did cost a little out of pocket though for the Pead and My Doctor ...But it was worth it.

My sister in law had her Babies at Tweed and is about to have her third there too. She has gone home 5 hours after they were born both times and said she liked it there. Good Luck
