i was told my son quote"needs"unquote an 18 month check up..
just out of curiosity
seriously
what are they going to do if i dont go? :detective:
Lol...they will send around a troop of nasty MCHNs with an arrest warrant unless you hand over the child and submit him to all sorts of tests:yes:
Your child, up to you. If you want o have him checked, go for it...if not, then dont:)

Ha nothing I hope!
Neither of my kids have ever been to an MCHN in their lives...not ONCE.
I'm in trouble
My gp does all mine!!.. would rather pay than be given mis information!!! :D

We went once and never went again... I find them a little over opinionated for my liking...
Is there a reason in particular that he needs a checkup?? Is there something they have been monitoring

I think either your gp or chn can do a check-up but it's totally up to you when and if you get your child checked at the dates suggested in their personal health record. When I had my second child, the chn offered to check my 18mth old while I was in getting my newborn weighed. I found the info she gave me really useful (toilet training, fussy eaters, tantrums, biting etc) and she also weighed my dd and checked her height etc. It also was a good opportunity for me to discuss any issues I was having. When my younger dd has her 18mth needles I'll take my nearly 3 year old along with us so she can have a check-up with my gp also. Some chn's can be a little over the top but if you find a nice chn that you get along with they do offer a wonderful and free service.

Juat for the record..........they're not all bad!!! I have only experienced wonderful, accepting, open minded MCHN. I take my kids to their check ups cos I like to get them weighed and measured and because I'm lucky enough to have a good one.......I can chat to them if I have any concerns or questions. I am also pretty good at ignoring comments that I don't agree with too, lol!!
BUT........there is certainly no rule that says you have to go!!!

I love going to my MCHN for a check up and a chat. I've known her for almost 7 years and her advice and support has been invaluable to me.
We really look forward to 'wacka wacka weigh day' lol.
I know there are some bad ones but honestly, the majority of them are only there to help.

:iagree: I have a wonderful MCHN. I find her very useful for all those issues related to raising children - not necessarily all health issues.

My CHN is also great - well except for the fact that she just moved back to NZ!!! We have seen her on & off since she did the first home visit with DD 3 yrs ago.
You don't HAVE to have it done, but it's a good chance to check on a few little things like hearing/sight/speech etc that you may or may not be worried about. As someone else said - your GP can also do it. There are some developmental things that you may not notice as a parent, but will stand out to a GP or CHN.

I've had all my kids check ups done at the GP as part of their immunisations. Never been to the CHN even for weigh in. If I'm worried about their weight between check ups I visit the chemist

I really went just to get her weighed & measured...check her milestones...really all stuff I guess I could have done....alas I am lazy and want them to write it in her book...to make it official!
Really all the questions asked were 'yep' answers...milestones etc...
I have formed the way I want to parent....I am comfortable that DD is always close to us...we co-sleep...not sure if they were that accepting but who cares!!!:D
