Im curious to know what age other peoples kids gave up their day sleeps??
DS is only 17mths and since Monday he hasn't been wanting his usual 2-3hr arvo nap he has been having since he was 11mths ....... only two days this week have I been able to get him to have a sleep in the arvo, but not without a battle.
Now when I take him to his room to put him in his cot he just throws the biggest tantrum and screams and screams, it's like he isn't even tired and is getting annoyed with me that im putting him to bed when he doesn't want to be there!!!!
I really dont know whether something else is bothering him and maybe it's just a little phase that will pass and he will go back to normal, or if he is really not going to sleep during the day anymore :crying: He seems too young to 'not' sleep still during the day. He still hasn't had a sleep today, this is the 3rd day in a row!!!
This has just been the hardest & most challenging week so far, I know there are people with worse issues, and I know I dont have as much patience as usual as im pregnant with #2 atm and sooo tired, but I just feel like im going to go banana's, he was going to sleep like a dream before this. :dizzy: Im usually sooo patient, it's not nice feeling this way.
Hoping to hear your stories so I can feel a bit better, maybe someone elses toddler gave up their day sleeps early too????!!!!

DD only gave up her day sleeps a few months ago and she's 3.5. She's at an age when she told me she wasn't tired anymore. I believe her body still needs it as she is very tired and cranky by tea time, but her head doesn't want it iykwim.

DD has been acting this way for around a week now for her afternoon nap :crying:.....but she'll sleep in my arms if I don't put her in the cot!

:iagree: this is the same in our house, but I find, she still has a sleep sometimes, I currently have a sookie lala right now, due to no sleep today, she is cranky.

My DS gave up daytime naps before he was even one. He's never been much of a sleeper though.
DS2 is almost 10 months and barely has daytime naps anymore so looks like he is going to be the same.
The difference between them is that DS1 never got tired and cranky.. he just didn't seem to need the sleep where as DS2 does.

DD was 2.5 - when she started preschool,..
DS is 22months and still needs his 2hour sleep,..thank goodness!!!!!!
From about 20 months DS would stay up if we were out or there was heaps going on.
BUT recently he went a few days here and there where he would flat refuse a day sleep. I was at my wits end and knew that he needed it cos he was sooo tired by like 4pm. Then he opened his mouth and i realised why.........he had cut a 2 year old molar. DS cut his first tooth at 7 months and ever since that very first tooth every tooth he cuts he will stop having his day sleeps til it is cut. Have no idea why, its just him.
So could he be teething?
DS also doesnt often sleep at Daycare.
PS he didnt sleep today either and tonight when i felt his gums the other 2 peaks of the molar were completely through.

She's 3 in July, and only gave them up about 1-2 months ago.
She was having a 2-hourly afternoon nap daily, but started resisting.
She still tends to sleep the same amount of hours in a day... only she gets tired earlier so I put her to bed earlier. She used to sleep from about 9.30pm-8.30am... now she does about 6.30/7.30pm-8.30am.
I'm happy with that.

DD is 3 in July and is still having them.
she has been in the last few weeks skipping a day here and there so i think she may be fazing them out slowly
hi,
DD is 2 years 8 months and still has her day sleeps. They range from 1.5 hours to 3.5 hours and still sleeps around 10-11 hours each night.
My friend's DD is 4 next month and still sleeps for 1.5 hours a day when not at pre-kindy or childcare.

My 3 yr old has pretty much given them up.......but will still have one sometimes. Ds2(19 months) still has one every day. He missed out one day last week and fell asleep eating dinner(too cute)! But I have noticed in the last month or so he can hang out a lot longer. He used to well and truly crash by 12pm, often 11.30 but can now last till 2pm.......though I make sure I get him down by 1.30 or it stuffs up bedtime. So maybe you could try putting him down a bit later adn see if that makes a difference.
DS1 who is 3 in July still had about a 2 hour nap during the day. If he skips it he is so cranky and whingy by about 5 o'clock.
DS2 also only has 1 nap of a daytime now and he is only 10 months. He is then in bed by about 6:30 7pm and sleeps all night till about 7am
