I was wondering if theres anyone out there in Perth that might know where i could get a 3D or 4D ultrasound done??
Or even a video.

How much do they cost?? Is there a Medicare rebate for it??

Do you need a referral from your Doctor??

Any info would be a help...

hi there!

sad to say i'm in brisbane area, but i can give some info.

before you make an appointment, you have to ask for a referral from your ob.

i had 3d ultrasound last march 28 at mater private hospital and it cost $225. but, as far as i know there's a medicare rebate. try to ask the hospital once you had your schedule. ;)

I frequent another discussion forum and quite a while ago (before I was pregnant) I saved the following information:

Dr Murphy in Subiaco (St John of God) does 3D u/s and costs $150 (at that time) and you get $85 back from medicare. If you want this done to get a referral from your doctor.

Maybe ring up and see if they are doing this still?

Hope this info helps?!

Terri

My 19week u/s was done at Women's Imaging Service - opposite King Eddy. You need an OB referral for the medicare stuff. (My OB works out of Mercy Hospital and he just automatically sent me there for the 19weeker).

It cost $180 with about $98 back on Medicare. They did a DVD for us as well at the same time (didn't have to take one in - they just did it).

PS -Sorry if I didn't respond to your query when you posted it Jaclyn. I think I did, but blame my placenta brain if I missed your post!

I had my 3D scan with Dr Bev Hewitt in West Perth (11 Ventnor Ave West Perth WA 6005, ph: (08) 9481 4008), about a month or so ago....the good side was that we got a DVD of the whole thing, and she will give the 3D thing a 'try' for you - she said it depends on the baby's position...

She isnt really child friendly tho, she kicked my husband and 2 year old son out of the room, which really p*ssed off my husband since he was the one who had wanted the 3D scan done in the first place. We had to wait in the waiting room for over an hour with a full bladder, which meant I hadnt been for a number 1 for nearly 3 hours.....she was running late. This also p*ssed my husband off as he had especially taken time off work.....

You will need to get a referral from your Dr, and if it coincides with one of the standard ultrasound scans you 'need' during your pregnancy, or if there is some other medical requirement, you will get a huge chunk back on medicare (cant remember exact amount).

So maybe if you can go without other kids, and do your last pee about 20 mins before you get there, then drink all your water....and take a good book as you may have to wait ages (warn your partner/hubby of this if they are taking time off work).....also, you will need loads of coins for the meter outside....

I havent made it sound pretty have I, but I am sure if you go prepared you will have an excellent experience ;)

My husband is still burned from the experience, he still cant bring himself to watch the DVD (he is very sensitive...) but I have and it is excellent!!

Hiya,

Its already been mentioned here, I had my 20wk u/s at the Womens Imaging Centre in Subi... but I just wanted to give them a plug because the two ladies who did my u/s (actually I think they are both Professors?) were just amazing. Gushing over my beautiful girls kidney's and development and DF and I just felt so awesome with them.

I didn't have to wait a second past my appointment time, we got a DVD and they were just really lovely and helpful.

For some reason I'm not entitled to anything back on Medicare - I have no idea why this is :( so I paid the $180 but it was worth every cent. My first u/s was at SKG, also in Subi and the girl there... well talk about cranky and not giving a toss about us seeing our baby for the first time, we felt like a huge inconvenience the whole time because my little one was fidgety and she couldn't get the measurement she needed.

Anyway - GO the Women's Imaging Centre :) they rock

I wish I'd known about the sonographer you saw! Dont understand the difference between why I got money back from medicare and you couldnt, but maybe mummy2b can phone both places and see what the situation is....

If the subi place finds a way to give you back some on medicare, go with them I say!

The Subi place was the one I went to...

I loved their service but for some reason can't remember the ladies' names. (Dr Diane someone was the radiologist and then there was a radiographer - I think!)

As I said - I did get money back from medicare - carmel jane - was your referral from your ob current? It's the only reason I can think that you wouldn't have got money back...:detective:

I also went to see Dr Hewitt and it was awfull!!!..My husband and kids were there too and she was not happy about that either ...pretty grumpy actually! We found her to be very blunt and unhelpful...we thought it would be a great experience for the other kids to see the baby for the first time, but she just rushed us through to get us outa there...I was the one to point out all the bits to the kids as she just went on with the scan with no explanation...hmmm!!! seems like thats just the way she is, so if you're after a good experience.........don't go there!!!!!!I wish I would have known earlier about the other Dr's!!
Enjoy your scan!!!!!!!! And make sure you get a DVD..it's great to look back on!!!!!

I went to Dr Murphy @ Attadale Hospital as my GP referred me to him (even though I'm a public patient). It cost $165 and I got $100 rebate from Medicare. If you bring in a video they'll record the whole thing for you, including a little bit of 4D stuff. We only had to wait 30 minutes after our appt time, but I did have to ask if I could have a "little pee" to get me through :p

Dr Murphy didn't actually do it, but he was in the room the whole time pointing stuff out to us. Oh, and if you want to know they sex you have to ask! We thought they would ask us if we wanted to know, but they just avoid that area if you don't specifically ask them (I had to get back on the table for the news of a boy!)

It's on 160a Cambridge st. in West Leederville/Subiaco. :)

Oh, another thing I forgot to mention, if you manage to get an appointment w/ Dr. Murphy, you can bring a VHS tape with you and they'll record the session. If you want copies of the ultrasound pictures on a CD, just let them know (just have $3 ready).

I went to Western Ultrasound for Women in Cambridge Street in Subiaco/ West Leederville. It is virtually across from SJOG. I know there are also a couple of other places nearby.

It is run by Dr Anthony (Tony) Murphy who is an OB as well. He sits in on all the scans and discusses any results with you after the scan. He is really great.

I think I paid $160 and got around $100 back from Medicare. Everytime I have been there I haven't had to wait more than a few minutes past my appointment time.

They do the cutest 3D scan, mine is adorable, and give you a copy of the 4D one (video) too.

Womens Imaging Services all the way! on Barker Road opposite KEMH.
Dr Diane Davies was the doctor there, and Jo Glover was our sonographer...they went into so much detail and really explained everything very thouroughly...we got included in the $180 a DVD of the whole scan including the switch to 3D I think the 4D is just a time thing...it was an awesome experience one I will treasure...just wish I had known about for DD1.
We asked before the scan to be shown which sex :) Very obvious too...

I went to Dr Bev Hewitt and after going to numerous ultra sound clinics I would never go to anyone else but her. Dr Bev Hewitt is the best. I went to subiaco and was total put off by the judgemental attitude.
