Hey mummies, I was just reading Cora and Jess's post about routines and as I've also been wondering about how much sleep other bubs are having I thought maybe we could have a 'routine' thread.

In my experience, the only thing I know for sure, is that everytime (in the past) I've thought I had an established routine with one of the girls - it all changed within days!! Arrrggghhh!

Georgie - 10 days old
Feeding - expressing breast milk and bottle feeding
Sleeping - Basinette - which floats around the house depending on were we want her

At the moment Georgie is still sleeping a lot and about 80% of the time I'm waking her for 4 hourly feeds. (I have to do this as she lost so much weight with the jaundice and cheek bruises). Can't tell you how difficult it is to get my head setting an alarm to get me up to wake up a baby in the night.

ATM I'm trying to stay with the 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 10pm 2am feeding cycle - mainly because that means I get two good blocks of sleep at night! (And that's what mummy needs!!) It's really funny, having always demand feed, to be able to plan for this and weird to be worring about how much she is drinking. Now, if she does eventually get the boobie feeding things - I'll be so worried about her getting enough milk!

Georgie is generally having 2 clear awake times a day. One in the morning and then one late afternoon, evening. So she is sleeping a lot. I'd love to know how much sleep time other are having. I know every bub is different - but sometimes its nice to know - hey!

Ok my other issue atm is the bf/formula debate that is raging in my mind - due to our situation. I know b/f is a good idea when you have a good supply of milk (like I do) but I'm just not sure how long I can express for. I'm really not enjoying it and part of me just wants to stop and put her on formula. But you guessed it I feel guilty. Want to cry just thinking about not doing the best for my baby. I'm probably being a over sensitive, and am not doubt still very much under the influence of my hormones. I keep changing my mind about. Georgie doesn't seem to be getting any better at the breast. She sucks for a while and then just pulls off like it's all too much hard work. I know there is not much to comment about it regards to this - but it's good to get my feelings out a little!!!

So that is my Georgies routine - well if you can call it that!!

We haven't tried much routine yet but I think her awake/sleep times are starting to show.

Millie - 18 days old ( i think :o )
Feeding - breastmilk on tap (I don't time or count feeds, its unlimited)
Sleeping - day - rocker, night - cosleep.

She starts her day at about 8am - change, feed and goes back to bed between 9 to 10 for a short while.

11 - 12pm - she will go down for a long(er) sleep. (At this time, I put Liam down for his sleep)

She sleeps most of the afternoon, by 4pm she is awake. Between then and 10.30pm, she feeds and cat naps in 20 minute blocks.

At 10.30pm, she has a good feed and sleeps until 3am or so.

I won't be starting any sort of routine with times until at least 6 weeks. I'm still adjusting :p

I think we have established a routine

RYDER - 13 Days Old
FEEDING - Bottle Feeding - Formula
SLEEPING - Day/Night Bassinet

During the day we move Ryder's bassinet into the lounge room where we can keep an eye on him and hear him if he wakes.
At night the bassinet is placed directly beside my bed so I have easy access to him if need be without getting out of bed.
(I take comfort in having him close).

Every since I bought Ryder home from the hospital his routine has shown itself - (Night routine anyway).

He is always asleep by 8:30pm.

His first wake during the night is always between 1:00am - 1:30am. I get him up, give him a bottle, change him and he is back in bed by 2:00am.

His second wake is always inbetween 5:00am - 5:30am, where the same thing happens. He is always back in bed by 6:00am.

He doesn't wake again until after 8:30am in the morning.

He gets fed first thing, gets a bum change and gets dressed and then has 15 minute tummy time whilst mum has breakfast.
We then have interactive bonding time (him on his playmat with me making noises with the toys) for about 15 minutes.
He's always back in bed by 10:00am where I go and have a shower.

His normally awake again by 11:30am for lunch feed, bum check and more play mat time whilst I have lunch. We go for a walk after lunch for about 30 minutes. He always falls asleep and doesn't wake up again until atleast 3:00pm.

It's daddy time in the afternoon. Gets another feed and normally goes down again by about 5:00pm, wakes at about 7:00pm and the night routine starts all over again.

To be honest i'm not sure how long it's going to last but I couldn't ask for a better first baby.

This word you speak of... Routine! It makes me giggle.

Elijah - 9 days old

Feeding - Breast and Bottle

Sleeping - Day / Cot and Night / Co-Sleep

Elijah pretty much eats and sleeps when he wants to. I've made absolutely no effort to establish any kind of routine yet because I am concentrating on keeping Noah fixed in his routine so that he doesn't feel out of sorts.

I'll start thinking about a routine from about 6 weeks old or thereabouts.

Lincoln - Nearly 3 weeks old

Feeding - Breastfeeding

Sleeping - In his Bassinet beside our bed

Well Im not one to time feeds and record when bub has gone to sleep and woken up I just make sure every feed he gets a full feed a bit of play time and back to bed... so far so good!! He has fallen into a natural routine on his own, I think babies need some sort of routine, now I am not talking about a shedule, but I know my bubs thrive on their day bring predictable. My aim is always to make sure he has had enough milk during the day so he can go longer stretches at night, we are about 3 hourly during the day, with a couple of good sleeps they last about 2 hours give or take half and hour

Night time he has about 2 feeds, and I make sure I tank him up on boobie by giving him cluster feeds about 6ish and 9ish I think he is sleeping 6 hour stretchs at night and a early feed about 5ish and he usually wakes about 9am which is great as I can get up shower and get little miss 19 mths breakie and ready for the day before little Mr wakes. I dont wake up tired, I remember feeling like a Zombie when Sophia was a newborn so cant complain here.

Charlotte - 6 Weeks and 2 days

Feeding - Bottle Feeding - Formula

Sleeping - In a bassinet beside our bed

Um routine...well um. So far we have got the feeds to every 4 hours at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 10pm. We have awake time from 10:30am everyday (Charli chose that not us haha) in this time we play on the play mat, read books or play with musical inch worm (a very ugly toy that she seems to love). Apart from that we are pretty much going with the flow. On bath nights she has her bath at 7 so that she is tucked up in bed by 7:30. We are pretty happy with the way its going so far. :yelclap::D

I hardly ever post in here, but routines are something that I was told 2 days ago were "so important, you have no idea" by someone who has no idea  So here's ours... for now :)

Phoenix - 4 weeks, 1 day

Feeding - Breast Feeding, demand fed. Usually every 3 hours, sometimes more often through the day, and less so at night.

Sleeping - Night: Bassinet beside our bed anfd co-sleeping, Day: varies (swing, stroller/pram, bassinet wheeled around the house)

Feeds are totally varying every day at the moment, sometimes it seems like he just wants 'top ups' through the whole day.
We usually have him in his bassinet through most of the night, providing he'll readily go to sleep in it, co-sleep from about 6am until 8 - 8.30. Get up, nappy change and feed usually, and a bit of bonding as we go around the house, opening everything up :sunshine: (otherwise he stays pretty sleepy for the rest of the day etc). At about 10-ish Phoenix has about 45 mins of Daddy bonding time (night worker, so he's only just getting up then...) if DF is home, if not then we read a book or have some other play and bonding time. This morning we went through all of his toys and I told him about them and when they were for etc. If we have anywhere to go, we usually head out around now.
Skip forward to evening/night... lots of cuddle-time later... bath and massage between 7.30 and 8.30 and hopefully happily settled into bed right after that, with lullabies.

Sorry for the long post, but thats more or less it for us :)

Noah - 5weeks & 2days
Feeding - S26, 130mls to be increased to 140mls next week
Sleeping - In cradle in his room

It depends what we do if we go out Noah will cat nap through the day and have a big sleep when we get home if we stay at home he will sleep for 2.5-3hrs except around lunch time when it's awake time between bottles..

Noah is very alert and doesn't like to sleep much thankfully through the night he will sleep anywhere from 2.5-4hrs at a time and the same with feeding

Noah loves to have cuddles with mum espeically in the morning when he wakes around 4.30-5.30ish after only 1.5hrs sleep after a bottle he comes in and lies on my chest and will sleep like that until 7.30-8.30am. He loves cuddle time with mum
