I just came home with all the ingredients for lasagna except i forgot to get flour to make the bechamel sauce. I have self raising flour but I think that would be awful - do you think?
Are there any alternatives!! I have cream... and lots of cheese
any ideas?

Self raising is fine. I've use it before and it doesn't make a difference.
hmmm not sure on the SR flour.
Do you have cornflour? my mum makes her white sauce using it instead. As in doesn't make a roux but brings milk and a tabsp of butter to a simmer and in a seperate little bowl blends a tabsp or 2 of cornflour and a little milk together to form a paste then adds that to the milk and stir it until it thickens.
Maybe you could mix together Cream and grated cheese and use that as the "white" layer?

The self rising flour has baking powder, but it will start to out gas the minute it gets wet, so the effect on your final sauce should be minimal :chef:
I have used SR flour heaps in white sauce, it is fine:)
