All of a sudden my DD nearly 8 mths is terrified of the vaccum. I dont just mean a little cry she goes absolutely histerical. I dont know wat to do. she wont even settle until the vaccum is out of the room. I havent tried vaccuming when she is asleep yet cos it was only today she got scared of it.
Has anyone else had any troubles like this and wat is a good solution??

StuChick, has the same problem, maybe have a talk to her when she is on next...
I had the same problem with my last baby. At around 7 months he becamed terrified of the noise from the vaccy. He would climb all over it when it wasn't going, but as soon as the noise started, so did his screaming. I used to pick him up and get him to "help" me vaccume. He was calm in my arms and soon got used to the noise. I found by picking him up and then telling him the big noise was coming, he got use to it quickly, then I would put him in his high chair and within a few weeks, he was fine with being on the floor again.
I was vaccuming everyday, so It would depend on how often you vaccume as to how quickly they become used to noise.
My son is now almost 3 and I'm not allowed to vaccume any more. It's his job!

my son had a fear of the vaccum cleaner at around the same age. he is now going to be one in a few weeks. what i did at first was vaccum while he was sleeping. then slwoly i let him investigate the vaccum cleaner while it was off.for him it was more of a curiousity thing. he is still a bit funny with the noise of the vaccum cleaner but he doesnt cry now

My oldest son was terrified of the vaccum cleaner around that age and it lasted until he was about 18 months. I always had to do the vaccuming when df was home to distract him or if it really had to be done i put him upstairs to play in his cot for a few minutes while i raced around downstairs and got the floors done.
I believe this is completely normal for some babies. My DD is afraid of the vacuum cleaner too. It started when she was 11 months old, and she stiil is afraid of it. My DH takes her out when I need to vacuum. This is our only solution.
