With my first I put on about 13 kilo, with my second I put on nearly 21 kilo, and with this one I have put on about 11 kilo and only have 4 days till my due date. So it is all different but a lot does come off after you have bubs and then if you breast feed it takes the rest off quicker.
I hope this has helped you.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. And don't stress about the weight, it will come off.

I hate to be rude! But I really do not think that is true for everyone. Some ppl maybe but certainly not everyone. I know a number of ppl that put on more weight by bf cause they are always hungry!

I put on a total of 8kgs and lost 15 by the time DS was a week old. I was big to start with though. Mind you DS was 4.4kgs and I was carrying a lot of fluid.

Try not too stress too much. As long as you have a healthy diet and regular excersise you will only gain what weight you need too. And with a bit of hard work it will come off again.

Dont stress though, there is nothing worse for your bubba than a stressed out Mama.

Keep smiling,

I put on 17kgs.......lost 10 pretty much straight up and another 3 since then. I was one that didn't lose any more with breastfeeding.

It's all for a good cause though!

I think the amount you have put on is perfectly normal. Don't forget it's not just baby weight but extra fluid, you have something like double the amount of blood circulating through your body, the placenta weight.....there are all sorts of factors, not just bub.

You are doing really great! Keep it up.

I have been rading in one of my very many books that if you are underweight to star with then your body tries o correct itself and put on a bit more than normal. I dont know how true his is though. I am almost 24 weeks and have put on about 6 or so kilos. It seems to fluctuate between 5 and 7 probably depending on how much water I have been guzzling. It seems like quite a lot to me as I am only just past the half way mark and only put on 2 kilos in the first trimester. Then Whammmo!! my bump popped out long with my bbs!! I am normally between 53 and 55 kilos and I am 172cm tall. i feel like I am all boobs and bump a he moment!

by the sounds if it i shouldnt get too worried about my weight but before i found out i was pregnant i weighed 68kg...on the 20th March 2006 I went to see my local doctor and I weighed 64kg. That same day I went to my bf's house used his scales it said 63kg. Went for my first pregnancy check up at the hospital on monday 3rd April I weighed 65.52kg and went for another check up today and I weighed 64kg...today ive just started my 15th week so im in the second trimester and im losing weight instead of putting it on...should i really be worried?

Put on 25 kgs with my first, by my six week check up had lost 22kg (i was a big ball of fluid, and am again) through doing absolutley no excercise. Haven't put on that much this time, but started off heavier (was already carrying the fat stores!)

Everyone I know that had their first bub in the early twenties bounced back to their pre-pregnancy weight (although some things will never be the same shape again

I am not sure of my exact weight before DD but my first weigh in was 80g at 6 weeks my heaviest was 101kg. I went from size 10-12 up to size 22 in 10 months. :crying: Now I am back down there.:p

i've been doing A LOT of bored & comfort eating!! i was about 58kg b4 preg. & now i'm prolly over 75kg!! (haven't weighed myself in a few weeks - i don't have scales, but jump on the ones at work every now & then...)

i'm usually pretty active, so i'm HOPING i can lose most of it after giving birth... ;) (i can still fit into some of my *stretchy* size 8 tops.... just:yelclap: lol)

08-04-2006, 03:49
I only put on about 8kgs but I think that was because I had issues with what I could and couldn't eat. Couldn't have chocolate or any even slightly fatty foods or I would be in hospital on a morphine drip (gall stones  ) And wouldn't ya know it, that seemed to be all I craved and I COULDN'T HAVE IT!(choc & fatty food, not the morphine!) GRRRRR!!!!! It remains to be seen whether I gain more with the 2nd bub though :) if and when I get pregnant again that is ;)

i put on 25kgs the first, lost 23 in 6 months then fell pregnant again (at the 6 mth mark) and stopped weighing myself after i got to the 25kg mark but think maybe it was possibly 28kg, then got down to the pre 1st pregnancy weight at the 6 month mark again.
i don't know if pregnancy or time has ravished my body but it certainly ain't what it used to be

(even though Ds was only 6lb 15oz) the day after Brodie was born i was 70kgs! im now sitting on about 65 so 10 more to go! they say its alot easier when your younger so heres hoping! i just wish the stretchies would go away! oh well my bubbas worth it times a hundred!

I had put on 1 kg by 16 wks, but by the time I was due, had put on 20kgs all up (51kgs - 71kgs). Lost 15kgs in the first week or so and now have 3 or 4kgs to go.

I went from about 50 kilos to 60. I was a bit porky (for my body type) when I got pregnant. Now I weigh the least I ever have, 45 kilos. I breastfeed and am always hungry, but often don't have the time to go and make myself something to eat. Goes to show that everyone is completely different.

I put on around 25 - 30kg while pregnant. Lost it all in 10 weeks. Now 5kg lighter than I was pre pregnancy.

Baby Girl
13-04-2006, 23:43
I put on 8 kgs with DD1 and lost it all within a week after she was born.

With DD2 I put on about 20 kgs while pg, lost about 12 in the first few weeks and then put on 10 more while bf.

I did have a totally different lifestyle during both pregnancies but found with no. 2 I just didn't give a hoot about weight gain as much as I did with my first. I used to walk and swim everyday when I was pg with no. 1 but second time around I was lazy and just ate!!

I have not lost anything amazing yet - 4 kgs in 10 months but I have every intention of getting back to my size 10-12 body within the next 6-9 months (I am a bridesmaid at my friends wedding so that is motivating me at the moment!!)

Just an interesting piece of info...

While bf (and late in pg) each boob can weigh up to 1kg!!

Add a couple of kilos for bub, a couple more for fluid and a couple more for all the extra blood you have pumping through you at the moment and 10kg is really good. I think the average weight gain through pg is about 12-18kgs.

Tam-I-Am
14-04-2006, 02:47
I put on 14kg by the end of my pg.

According to my pg bible - what to expect when you're expecting - "normal" weight gain is between 11 - 15.5kg, more for very thin girls and the breakdown of weight gain, approximately is as follows:

Baby................................3.3kg
Placenta..........................750g
Amniotic fluid...................1kg
Uterine enlargement.......1kg
Maternal breast tissue....1kg
Maternal blood volume....1.8kg
Fluids in maternal tissue..1.8kg
Maternal fat stores..........3kg

Total average...................13.5kg

Try not to stress too much about weight gain though. I lost weight in my second trimenster, put on more than is average in my third, when I discussed it with my OB he said they don't even bother to weigh most pg women anymore, unlesss there's some reason to ie gestational diabetes or some such, because there are so many other indicators of a healthy baby ie heartrate, U/S, fundal height etc.

i put on 25.5kgs in my first pregnancy. when i found out i was pregnant i was in the middle of organising with my doctor tests to see why i couldnt put on any weight as i weighed 43kgs and couldnt get any higher:laughing:
after birth i weighed myself and i was down to 58.6kg and within about 10 days i was a few kilos short of 50 kilos.
i actually wanted to keep my pregnancy weight:laughing: it was easier for me to buy clothes lol

I put on 30kg during pregnancy although I hid it well.

By the time DS was 6months I'd lost 26kg. I had to wait till he was on solids to really start dieting coz i was BF.

I still have 4kg to lose but its not bugging me as much anymore!!

I gained 25kg lost 23kg during the first 6months, no more in the next 6 months. I figure its my body holding onto a little untill BF i finished so I am just maintaining now.

Oh and I remember reading somewhere if you have just lost a good amount of weight from dieting right before pregnancy you can expect a bigger gain during your pregnancy.

I put on 20kg cause i ate whatever i wanted!! this was my weight after i was out of hospital and back home so that didn't include the actual babyand placenta etc.

i struggled to lose the first 10 and then found herbalife and lost the next 10 easy. i also used herbalife through my second pregnancy to help keep my weight down adn only put on about 5 overall.

don't worry about your weight- some dont put on much at all and others put on over 30kg! if it is at all a worry to you or bubs, you ob will tell you for sure.

relax- we all put it on!!

I put on about 20kg when pregnant, when she was born i lost about 13kg of it, but as i have been breastfeeding (and so hungry) i put it all back on again so i am currently
20kg heavier than my pre bub weight.
I have just started fitness classes tho, so hoping to be back to normal by July!:fingerscrossed:

I put on 31 (!!!) kilo's with my first baby but it didn't really look like that much- I'm 6 feet tall and I carried the extra weight differently to ppl that are shorter I guess. I lost it all plus an extra couple of k's by the time my bubby boy was about 18 months, but hadn't started to lose any until I stopped breastfeeding- I'm another one who didn't find breastfeeding helped to get the weight off. I am 38 weeks pregnant now and have put on 16 k's all up, I don't feel better or worse/heavier or lighter than last time, I think.

MonkeyMum05

I think I put on about 18 kg. My *** grew to balance out my belly
My bub was a heavy boy (9 pound 2 ounces!).

When he was still a newbie, I felt a bit down because all my clothes were too tight and my boobies just looked wrong, because they were so big! (I was used to A cups!)... I thought that I would just be 'fatter' from now on!
But, luckily, by the time he was about 6 months old, I had lost it all plus more and was shrinking out of my size 10's!! I don't even exercise!
I still eat heaps of food (I lurve food!!)... so I guess it is just the breastfeeding. I think it sheds kilo's for some, and doesn't for others.:o

Did your doc know about your eating disorder - I think the issue here is that you need to not focus on the weight focus more on making sure you are eating enough of the right things for you and the bubs health. There are lots of good books out there about what to eat while you are pregnant - don't worry about your weight just enjoy the sensation of being pregnant it is such a blessing.

I put on 19 kilos  and 13 days later I have 4 kilos to lose but on top of that I want to lose 10 more as I was 10 over when I got preggers  I think a lot of mine was fluid as I didn't change my diet at all just cut out alcohol completly.

MummaRobyn
21-04-2006, 23:37
I think pregnancy is the only time I loose weight (I am usually about a size 18 when I am not preggers!). First pregnancy I put on 4kgs and he was 4.18kgs born, second I lost about a kg and then had a 7 pound 5 baby, third I lost about 3kgs and had a 6 pound 13 and a half baby. This time around I am about 28 weeks and I have lost 8kgs! Now I don't try to loose weight - I eat all that I want but I crave healthy foods, like baked beans and vegemite and corn. I also suffer from quite a bit of nausea so I have a hard time eating too much in a go. I guess they do say that six small meals are better than three huge meals in a day!

I had three friends who were bulimic/anorexic/over-exercises growing up and I still think about them - even though I have moved on to having children and all and don't see them anymore.... I can only imagine how hard it has been for you to cope with your weight gain. I am proud that you are letting your body gain a little weight to make your growing baby healthy. Remember that most of your weight gain will be baby + waters + placenta (they are big things sometimes, my first was 3kgs heavy!) + extra fluid retention + extra blood your body needs to pump around while you are pregnant and a small amount of fat that your body will use up after birth - whether you use it by breast feeding or just running around doing things for your newborn - heck even the sleepless nights will cause you to burn up that necessary fat.

Just realise that your body is performing an awesome task - it is making a baby - oh and keeping it fed and quiet and clean.... after you have bub you will realise these things are not small feats.

Congratulations on your pregnancy :)

Thanks MummaRobyn.

there seems to be so many variations..i have days where everything is fine...i'm like yay i'm preggy lol I can finally eat and not worry!:smiliedance: but then there are other days where I just feel sooo anxious to get back to mia.

I wont be breastfeeding so i'm scared extra weight is going to hang on...i'm already thinking of just expressing and throwing it away (i cant breastfeed cos im on meds so my milk is no good/not 100% safe, so i'm not going to risk it.)

anyway i'm just going to eat 'normal' for once (even though i'm piling it on..seriously...my bod is holding on to everything i put in it) and then punish myself after i've had claudia...then once i get down to 49kg i'm going to go to a dietian and hire a personal trainer...and slowing learn how to eat properly and have a trainer worry about my weight. I dont want to be mia for every and i never want Claudia tohave to go through what i have...and i dont want it the rest of my life.

 Mummy2AlexandMary heheh you crack me up!!

Darling, there is no need to punish yourself after you have your baby! Speak to your dietician, trainer & doctor after you have had your little one and they will be able to work out a plan to help you lose the baby weight & still remain healthy while doing it. If its all worked out for you then you wont have to worry about & you will be able to focus more on bubs. I know its hard, believe me, but your baby needs a strong, healthy mum who has loads of energy! Being sick & punishing yourself wont help either of you luv. :hugs: Please speak to your doctor & dont hurt yourself anymore.

I have jus weiged myself and I am sure I have put ona bit more weight in the last few dsys , I am 26 weeks now and I am really worried as everyone says that the majority of the weight goes on towards the end - is it like double again from what is ganed at 20 weeks?? I think I am somewhere between 8-10 kilos over my nrmal weight so far

I put on 25 kg with my daughter! Most of it was water, but even that takes a while to go away after the birth.

I lost the first 15kg over the first 2 - 3 months and then it became more difficult..! But with daily exercise like walking it went away over the next few months.:smiliedance:

FIrst time 15kg, second time 20kg and they were both just under 3kg babies.

If you're eating healthy and staying active I wouldn't worry too much, I stressed out first time because my mum kept saying "the baby only weighs 3.5kg".

I got back into my clothes pretty quickly after the births and that was the main thing for me.

Okay the baby may only weigh that much but shouldn't the placenta be the same size if not bigger than the baby and then there is the amniotic fluid....?
