Hi ladies hope everyone is doing well. I read the forum's alot but rarely get a chance to post.

But one thing that is nagging me lately is the difference in opinion i've gotten about my cervix. Basically 2 years ago i had CIN 3 and as a result i had to have LLETZ treatment to remove the bad cells. Luckily they got it all the first time around but my cervix ended up scarred as a result. I asked my midwife about the effect it has on carrying a baby to turn and her opinion was that if its an issue its normally in the first 3months of pregnancy. But i saw another doctor for a medical certificate and his opinion was not to worry but definately keep a watch out for any signs of early labour.

Has anyone else had the LLETZ treatment and know if/how it effects carrying baby to term?

(Hopefully my post makes sense pregnancy brain make me go :hissy:)

I have had 3 pregnancies since my lletz procedure in 2001.

The first I carried my DS to 36 weeks (mercy csection as I was so huge I couldn't stand). My cervix showed no sign of incompetence and he was 13lb 2oz and I had 6 litres of extra fluid, so I think it had plenty of stress placed on it!

The second ended at 11 weeks when I had pneumonia and bub died, so no fault at all of my cervix. I had 2 d & c procedures done (1st was incomplete:banghead:)

My third pregnancy post lletz ended in a planned c section at 39 weeks. My (not so) little Ruby was 9 ½lb and again there was no sign at all of early labour. I had polyhydramnious again too.

These are my experiences ... I know it will be different for others, but I don't think that my cervix has been compromised by the procedure at all.

I'm hoping that it will continue to be good over another couple (hopefully) of pregnancies!

I had a cone biopsy 8 years ago after getting a CIN 3 result. ( I know this a different procedure than the lletz, but I think it's actually more invasive) At the time the Gyno said that it could have an effect on carrying a baby to term, so that when I fell pregnant in the future I should be examained and possibly have a stitch put in to support my cervix. 7 Years later I got pregnant (last year) and the midwife treated me like an idiot for asking about it and said that there sould be no problem whatsover! My GP (I did shared care) said it should be fine, but to let her know if I ever had any spotting or signs of early labour.

My DD ended up being born 10 days late and I had no problems/spotting etc at all.

I can understand you being worried about it (I definitely was), but try not to stress.

I also had a cone biopsy when I was 20....

Had no problems carrying P to term, she was born a week overdue.....

The only issue I had was I dilated to 9cm with a lip that wouldn't budge..... the lip could have either been due to the cone biopsy scarring (as I now have a uneven shaped cervix) or cervical swelling through being instructed to push when I wasn't fully dilated.....

I too hada Lletz procedure done in early November 05 and then fell pregnant in late December 05. I had no trouble carrying my DS till 10days post dates.
I went through a birthing centre and the midwives made me go and see an Ob to get the all clear which he did. I have had no problems at all since.
Goodluck to you.

I had CIN3 in 2003 and fell pregnant easily in 2006.
My son was born at 33weeks, unknown if it was due to the procedure but it did cause was scarring around my cervix which prevented it from dialting. I end up having an emergency c/s.

i was able to carry my second son to 38weeks but again still too much scaring on my cervox so had another c/s

I've had two lletz procedures and two healthy full term (and both overdue) pregnancies since. Just make sure they monitor you for length of your cervix throughout the pregnancy to make sure it doesn't become incompetent.

I had this as well in Nov 2005, and was pregnant in Jan 06, carried him to 42 weeks with no problems, and carried my second the following year again with no problems. I mentioned it at my 12 week check and the midwives sent me to a Ob, who checked the babies heartbeat, and said that the first 3 months are the most indicative, after that it shouldn't be an issue (in terms of holding the baby in), I am not sure about the cervical lip issues, but I wouldn't worry. I have had 2 Lletz procedures due to recurrent CIN 2, 2 years apart.

I was concerned that I might have a shortened cervix... but the first thing the sonogrammer said when I had my 13 week scan was "you have a nice long cervix" and when the gyno inspected it, she also commented that it was as if I had never had any procedure done.

I had worried SO MUCH that this would be an issue when I fell pregnant, needlessly.

I am 15 weeks pregnant now and its not expected to be an issue at all. Of course, it would depend on how much cervix was removed and how long it was beforehand... but I wouldn't be overly concerned. I know a woman who just had a baby after having her cervix removed due to cancer. She was given a stitch and put on bed rest for a lot of her pregnancy (not pleasant) but she had a healthy baby at 36 weeks. They'll watch you closely and intervene if there is any real risk.
