my dr just prescribed this to me today for my rash
i woke this morning to swollen lips and tongue and raced down to see him.

this was his last option, but something had to be done cause nothing over the counter is working
so he gave me some predsinone

has anyone taken this during pregnancy?

i haven taken any yet though

i cant really find much info on by googling

the only thing i can find is something about a cleft lip if used in the first 12 weeks

i was 19 weeks yesterday so i dont think t poses that risk

but i cant find anything else on it

prednisolone can cause swelling - so that could account for the puffiness. It's safe to take in pregnancy (it forms part of a protocol for some women with immune issues), but it's not a drug that should be taken long term, because it is a steroid.

I could be really really wrong but from memory with the steroids issues it lay in the first trimester then in the last .

The first trimester it can cause birth defects & then in the final issue it can cause breathing difficulties & then also delay labour ... Could be wrong though !

I know i was unable to take the steroids i needed when i bronchitis in the final month because of it delaying labour.

Didnt the chemist discuss it with you

They are meant to go over everything with you & then also give you special print outs etc.

I would be going back to them & discussing it with them & getting all the info i could to make a decision !

Ive used prednisone during my pregnancy which I would assume would have nearly the same ingredients (because of the scientific name) . You may have to be careful about immunisations at birth because it weakens the immune system was what I was told about..... Cant suggest another option though

I have been on and off prednisolone for 4 years and at 20wks pregnant they finally had to put me back on. They do try to avoid it in the first trimester as that is where the main risks are but it depends on the risk to the patient as well as the baby.

I am now 32 weeks and still on it but down to 5mg a day. My gastroenterologist, respiratory specialist any Obstetrician all agree that it's the best for me to be on it and to stay on it till bub's born.

They will watch you a little more carefully for gestational diabetes and it can lead to larger bubs but ironically they think I have IUGR so the complete opposite. There can be some issues after birth but I don't think they are long term - google should come up with some stuff, will try to find more later for you.

Good luck, I'm sure if they knew you were pregnant they would only have prescribed it if they thought it was in your best interest.
