Writing kids books

Hi Guys
I would love to write a childrens book, but I dont know where to start.:confused:
Has anyone out there written a book themselves or know a good website I can look at.

I have been making up told stories for my preschool classes since I started teaching over 8 years ago and have always wanted to actually become an author:D

I have made up a couple of books at home by using photos and lamenating them to create books that DS cant destroy:D hehehe

But I have heard of something called Momento its on the www.momento.com.au website and you can down load (for free) a program that helps you create your own hard cover books. I have thought of doing it myself.

But I cant offer you any help in way of how to break into the business, although I will keep a close eye on this thread and see if anyone else has any ideas.

A friend of mine in my mothers group has an aunty who is a childrens authour and has written over 20 childrens books, her name is Margaret Wild and I have some of her books (she is great!) but I dont really feel comfortable asking her to ask her aunt:o or maybe I should? what do you think?

If you google writing for children, you should find heaps more!

The best advice ever given to me about writing, is that "writers write!". If you are serious about writing, you should find the time to write everyday: ideas, character sketches, outlines, notes, observations, whatever!

Hope these few tips help you in the right direction.

I've written a couple of children's books but trying to get them published,.. it's the painful bit. :/
