Hi There,

I am looking around for a crib/cot and have noticed that the price varies dramatically depending on where you go.

Now, due to budgeting, I have seen some nice ones in the Target catalogue and Baby Target website that I think are reasonably priced.

I am yet to go and have a look but can anyone tell me if the quality of Target is just as good as other brands like Baby Co or the likes and are they up to the Australian Standards?

Our cot is from target and it is great. From memory we paid about $200 for it. I would imagine all their cots would meet safety standards and would have a tag on them that stated this antway if you weren't sure. I think the price difference mainly comes down to the look of the cot rather than th equality most of the time! I personally didn't want a 'chunky' looking cot, like a lot of the more expensive ones seem to be. Just make sure you get one where the base can be moved up or down and have a go at moving the side up and down - some of the mechansms can be really tricky - last thing you want when trying to lower a sleeping bub carefully into the cot! You can probably get hold of what the specific safety requirements are through the 'choice' website.

Oh, and make sure the mattress you get is the right size for the particular cot you choose as this is part of hte safety requirements too!

my hubby and I are on a stict budget too! (erh i hate it) anyway I did tonnes of searching...I looked at David jones and they were heaps exy it was $689.00 for the white cot I wanted (350.00for change table)...I went to target/kmart and theres were around $500.00 and I didnt like them cos they didnt have white....so anyway I ended up goin on to ebay just to look lol....and I found a lady that has a baby shop online her products are brandnew in box with warranty and meet Australian standards....anyway I wouldnt have usually brought online (and i wouldnt have brought a second hand cot) but this one is completely as new as you would buy in a normal shop without the mark ups...anyway i got the white cot I wanted plus a brand new matching white Change table (all to Oz standards) for $469.00including postage!!!!

It looks exactly like the David Jones one and we had it deliever to our door 3days later in perfect condition!

If your interested in her details, just PM and I will go back into ebay and find out...I highly recommend if your on a budget but still want the best! (i'm very fussy and my standards are high...but if your game its well worth it!:) )

You can get white cots in Target...as well as pine ones. I got a pine one. It was on sale...I can't remember how much it was, but it was pretty cheap (not REALLY expensive like Babyco seemed to be). I later bought the matching change-table for about $150. It's got 2 shelves too - so I bought some cute pink canvas boxes from target so I could shove nappies and stuff in them. They were $20 each and I got 4 of them.

They meet the Australian standards and are pretty good IMO. They might not look as fancy as $800 dark-wood sleigh cots...but they look just as good the other pine/white ones you'll find out there.

I'll also recommend going to Toys R Us. They have some cots in their stores - and they're not too expensive either. Gives you more choice...

Happy Cot Hunting...

ditto to what all the others have said.

There are also baby "warehouse" type shops which have cots at discount prices. I was very particular with what I wanted in a cot. (I wanted a drawer underneath) and managed to get exactly what I was looking for what I thought a good price. (we bought all the big stuff and saved over $500 from the major stores prices)

If you are in sydney check out Sydney baby Kingdom or My baby Warehouse both are good.
