Hoping I can call on some of your BFing expertise here.
My DS2 has always been a fast feeder but now he is super quick - like sometimes less then 5 minutes a side. He then seems content and happy and not that interested in trying to get more, but I am concerned he is not getting enough milk.
According to the growth charts in the health record books, he doesn't seem to be putting as much weight on as he should be, (he is 5 mths and weighs 6.66kg), and he is waking through the night again.
I have never had a huge supply - I don't ever leak and very rarely do my breasts feel full. How can I increase my supply and ensure he stays on for longer as I think a lot of the time he is just snacking and this is no good for him, or for my supply.
I really want to continue breasfeeding - with DS1 I started giving him top up formula feeds of a night and breasfeeds all through the day and early evening as well as solids around this age as he seemed ready for it and he thrived on those decisions and is still going great and seems to have not suffered any reactions so I don't really have any regrest there, but I really wanted to try and just keep DS2 just breast fed for at least 6 mths. BUt I am concerned he is not getting enough milk from me to stay healthy.
What should I do???

If he is satisfied, if he isn't complaining, if you are offering and he's refusing happily, there is no issue :) They are smart little things and they usually know what they are doing - at least when it comes to filling their tummies. At his age, he's just too interested in all this really cool stuff that's going on around him that he's just lost his interest in feeding for vast lengths of time. It's normal. Very very normal. So what you should do is feed on demand and don't stress :) Your supply will meet his needs.

And never judge a breastfed baby's growth by the charts in the blue book. They were developed for formula fed babies in the 1950s and are not relevant to either formula or breastfed babies today.

:iagree: word for word

The waking in the night thing is developmental. The slowdown in weight gain is normal. The quick feeding just means you have an expert breastfeeder there

Trust yourself, you're doing everything right
