We use the Avent bottles and teats......however, have found that she has a constant dribble ot the side of her mouth and it's messy. The teats seem too long and too hard........so went looking for other teats to try - someone suggested the Pigeon Peristaltic ones, but they don't fit on the Avent bottles........apparently.......??

.........SO I got some which are "infanti" brand - I DO find that she gets much better seal with them. However, I purchased 2 types, the 3-6 months ones - which seem to flow about at similar rate to the #2 Avent ones, and I also bought a pack of "variable flow" infanti ones.........now - with them - I can't work out how they work?? Poor little bubs sucks madly and gets almost NOWHERE :( They have a number 1,2 & 3 on them and the pharmacy assistant said you put the number to the top and that is how fast supposed to flow ? but doesn't seem to make any difference........ I have tried loosening and tightening the bottle - again - seems to make no difference........

Does anyone else use Infanti teats and know a bit more about them then I do? Does anyone use the Pigeon Peristaltic with Avent bottles and have no trouble? I figure ALL the companies try to tell you that you have to buy their bottles with their teats - so wondering if this is a "real" problem or just marketing crap!!??

Any suggestions / information would be very welcome.

Hi Tannie,

Our daycare highly recommended the avent (it was their favourite type) so I bought them. I found the flows were too fast for bub and went back to using the NUK bottles and teats - which didn't leak and bub seemed to like. We didn't end up using the avent until bub was about 9 months old. By that time she could handle the flow and the way the avent bottles convert as bub gets older was really convenient.

Hope this helps,
Tan.

Hi

I am using an avent bottle and I noticed that it was leaking from Bailey's mouth as well. I tried not to use this bottle. The health nurse told me to buy Pigeon bottles and teats. I used one of the teats in the avent bottle and it was fine. I recently purchased a tommee tippee wide bottle and it has a variable teat on it, but I think it is hopeless. Bailey gets really annoyed with it as he cant get the milk out fast enough. I would recommend getting the pigeon teats.

Hi there Tannie,
I breastfeed my bub (5 months old), but for occasions where I give her EBM, I use an avent bottle and a pigeon peristaltic teat. It is brilliant. The avent teat flowed way too fast for her, but the pigeon is just right - it is meant to have a more natural breastfeeding feel for the baby. I bought both the teats for up to 3 months old, the "S" type - good at first, but quickly outgrown by 2 months old - and the "Y" type - really good, as it has a faster flow, and we're still using it at 5 months old! - I had no problem fitting them to the avent bottle, the only problem is that they are a little short and don't reach to the cap when it is on, therefore, there is no real seal as such, and leakage could occur. The way I got round this was to carry the bottle and the teats separately, and assemble at the last minute before feeding. I highly recommend this product to you, good luck with it!!

I only ever used the Pigeon Peristaltic teats with my Avent bottles so does many others I know. There is a trick though. If you have the teat ring on too tight the flow will be too hard for bubby to suck out of. The teat will 'cave in' and basically stop flowing creating a suction. My 11 month old has all but moved on from bottles but if he is particually tired or upset we still bring them out with water.

I'm another breastfeeder, but going back to work soon so bub has to get used to ebm. I had tommee tippee wide neck bottles and variable flow teats and he wouldn't touch them. tried the dimpled teats - same. One of ladies at my mothers group suggested the NUK orthodontic teats, which meant I had to buy narrow neck bottles, but he hasn't rejected them at all. He also burps as soon as i sit him up which is a blessing. I have super fast let-down and he gets terrible wind because of it. I get told I'm a good cow! Good Luck

Thanks everyone for replies!
I might get 1 pack of the Pigeons Y and give them a go! I don't mind greatly that bub leaks at home - but it's a problem when "out and about" as if going for a day have to take several changes of clothing :( Going to be travelling soon - and will be a big hassle i know.
Methinks these companies are tryin to make $$ out of me.....................surely not !?! ;)
Thanks again everyone :)
