I always gave my bub normal yoghurt. I bought the natural one and added my own fruit. That baby stuff has too much sugar.

I didn't use baby yoghurt very often, mainly used regular natural yoghurt. DS2 I mainly used greek yoghurt, sometimes mixed it with some puree. Natural yoghurt is also great for mixing with sweet or savoury dishes to cool them down. Now I still have greek yoghurt in the fridge, plus tubs of low fat yoplait or whatever and a big tub of one with heart tick. We love yoghurt here!

I used baby yogurt up til about 7 months - then just gave him normal stuff. Never berry flavoured ones though (still avoiding strawberries til 12months)

You can use any yogurt from 6 months.
Just make sure its full fat, and sugar free.
All but one brand of the baby yogurt has sugar in it anyway so you are better off using something else.

As people said, buy full fat natural yogurt and add fruit to sweeten if he wants it, or buy sugar free ones (don't mistake them for ones that are sugar free but have that artificial sweetener in them)

I always used normal yoghurt. When they were babies I added fruit puree to natural yoghurt. Now they are a bit older I get the natural yoghurt and the flavoured yoghurt and mix them together so the yoghurt is flavoured but not so sweet.

hi leashie

We use soy Yogurt and no-ones come up with the big bucks on selling that in "baby" label, yet!

I think the idea is that baby yogurts are easier for a baby to digest.

If youve had no allergy to dairy then its all good and miss M could have normal yogurts.

why do people use the baby yogurt? what's the difference? We just use normal yogurt, but we have given them the baby stuff if it is marked down, like this week, we got 6 tubs for $2!

The baby yogurt is meant to be gentle on stomachs, less lactose or somthing like that.

I use a normal yogurt, its a natural one called Jalna. I mix a bit of puree fruit in with it.

Like a lot of things that are aimed at a particular market, they are pretty much a big "have".

Normal full fat non sweetened yoghurt is perfectly ok for bub if bub has no intolerances/allergies or is from a family which has no history of intolerances/allergies.

If the history is there, then avoid it until over 12 months old ...

its recommended to give babies/toddlers full cream dairy until at least 2 years of age, after that you can use light. Not sure why, they need the fat/extra calcium to grow I think.

:iagree:

Natural yoghurt is the best as it doesnt have any nasties etc.

Most yoghurts use skim milk even when they are saying 'Lite' or the likes or have added sugar etc so its best to stick with a natural yoghurt then add your own fruit. Even the baby ones :shame:

All babies need full fat until they are around 2yrs of age its for brain development :D

We prefer Jalna ... But then Squeak will never have dairy products ever but Boof may get to have this back once his system has cleared.
