Hello
I am expecting my first on Aug 12th (getting closer and scarier!!)
My hubby is welsh and we have always agreed that we both like the name Rhys for a boy. But now I'm not sure if it goes with our surname - Hughes!!
All opinions would be greatfully received - we are conducting a little survey around every one we know!!
Thank you
Emily

Hi Emily;
I think Rhys is a nice name, Rhys Hughes doesn't sound to bad but maybe you can give him a middle name that breaks up the name eg Rhys Jacob Hughes. Most people aren't called by their full name very often so I don't think it really matters, your son will go through life being called Rhys not Rhys Hughes.
Just go with what your gut tells you and your hubby, continue saying it for a few days and see how it sounds out loud etc.
Good luck choosing a name I think it's one of the hardest decisions we make when it comes to the baby as they keep it for life!

Hi Emily
I love the name Rhys, it was one of my favourite boys names but my husband didn't like it. I think Rhys Hughes sounds fine as Kay says say it out loud a lot and if you and hubby are happy go with it.

Hi Emily,
One of our favorite boy names was Rhys also. We were going to go with Rhys Thomas however my husband thought since our surname ends in S as well that there were just too many s's especially if our boy had a lisp.. Men think of the wierdest things I swear!!
I think if the middle name doesn't contain and S that Rhys Hughes sounds like a great name!!
Good luck with choosing..

I think Rhys is a great name too!
Rhys Hughes sounds like a good old Welsh Rugby name to me!!
My brothers name is Rhys and mine Myfanwy our father is also Welsh.
When we were kids in England our names were very unusual ( 20 yrs ago).
Rhys is quite popular these days although you do come across some VERY INCORRECT ways of spelling it!!!
Keep the Welsh Dragon flying!!
Good Luck!!
