Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the boards and have several questions that are plaguing me ever since I decided with my husband we wanted a baby.

I'm in my early 20's, have no illness/diseases, have good BP (96/60 consistently), excellent cholesterol (132 total, good and bad both within normal ranges), consistently good blood sugar (98), etc. With my perfect "bill of health" so to speak, I am also overweight (220lbs., 5'5). Other than being overweight I also have PCOS, which is being treated with Glucophage (Metformin 1500mg per day) and that has worked for me for 2 years now with normal cycles beautifully. My weight issues were due partially from my polycistic ovary disorder which I had for many years before I started treating it.

I'm not gaining weight any longer, ever since starting PCOS treatment, in fact have lost about 40lbs. over the year and eat healthy, non smoker, don't drink alcohol or do any type of recreational drugs....I would not be dieting or anything of that nature when trying to conceive and during pregnancy, and I know how to maintain weight and all that...

That all being said is it "safe" for someone who's overweight and has a history of PCOS, yet healthy in all other aspects, to conceive?

I appreciate everyone's opinions. Thank you! :yelclap:

Hi there thanks for responding!
Was your wife overweight at the time? My main concern is the combination of the PCOS with the overweight.

Thanks:)

:D Thank you!

Did she have any complications with her weight and PCOS during pregnancy that you remember such as High BP, developing diabetes or anything significant?

I have pcos and conceived both of my children naturally. 8months for the first and first time for the second. I developed high bp in the last few weeks with the first and although I didn't develop diabetes with the second, I "presented" as a diabetic in that that I was HUUUGGGEE and had lots of amniotic fluid. There is probably no way to predict how things would go for you. my BMI was in the overweight range for both kids.
Hope this helps.

i also have PCOS and i cnceived naturally and im also overweight, it took me 2 months to fall preg with my son and with this pregnancy it took 3 months. My doctor told me that when i found out i had PCOS that it would take me 6 months or more to fall pregnant, boy was she wrong! I never had any problems in my pregnancies, all normal. miracles do happen. good luck.

I was over weight when I fell PG with my DS. At that stage I was 90ks. I didn't have PCOS then. I'm now 105kg and the GYN at the hospital outpatients was concidering putting me on clomid then if i wanted to. So I'd say if he thought it was a risk he wouldn't have suggested it.

Good luck with it all!!!

I was overweight and fell pregnant naturally with my daughter. I did have gestational diabetes but on top of PCOS I had several other indicators which put me in the would be a miracle if you don't get it group. Best way to avoid GD is to eat well, limit all sugars and watch your carbs and just be healthy. I admit to spending the first few months of my pregnancy eating everything I craved no matter how bad for me!
