View Full Version : Hubby possibly joining the RAAF
I have just found bubhub and stumbled across this section :)
My husband is at the moment going through the process to try and get into the RAAF as an officer, and i was just looking for other mums who are either in or going through the process?
We have a social worker interview next week which i have no idea what to expect?? I just wish we could know either yes or no so we can get on and plan things one way or another...
Is there a good social network with other mums/children when you get based somewhere?
Any info or sites you could point me in would be fantastic :)
Cheers

My Fiance is off to basic training on Tuesday for the airforce but he's been in previously before we met.
The social work visit is easy, nothing to worry about, she's just going to make sure that your aware of what life is like in the ADF and make sure you know that he may possibly be deployed etc'.Make sure your in a happy and stable relationship.
You wont find out if he's in or not for a while yet. Let me put it this way-our social work interview was last September and he's only leaving now and were STILL doing last minute paperwork. And he's a re-enlist so he's been processed quicker than some people.
Sometimes they dont have alot of enlistments to get through and it will happen quicker but be prepared for months of not knowing. He really wont know for 100% until he passes his fitness test 8 weeks prior to enlistment anyway. He will get a letter of acceptance a while before then but thats no garantee he'll get in.
Do officers have to do the year of training in Wagga after basic training or somewhere else? I cant remember. They wanted DF to re-enter as an officer as he's very very smart lol but he declined as he likes more hands on/labour kind of work. If he gets in and you end up in Wagga Wagga for a year-keep in touch with me.If im still there by then I should know the place pretty well and I'll try and help you out getting comfortable there.
Any other questions about the ins and outs of recruitment just PM me and i'll give you as much info as I can. This is our 2nd time round with him trying to get back in (1st time our baby was sick and he deferred) so I know a fair bit about this stage LOL.
Thanks so much for that Pennylane :) From what we gather if he was to get in its the training down in Melbourne for 4 months and then placement with one month i think at wagga but i'm not 100% on that.
We shall just have to wait and see now, looks like by the sounds of it it could be a while :)
