Hi:wave: I have had some issues in the past with nasty & unhelpful CHNs so I would rather just not go. I can take bub 2 the chemist 2 get weighed etc if need be. Any probs or questions I would rather see my GP who I absolutely love & trust very much. Is that ok? Thanks:)

its fine to go and see your GP, if you really don't want to go and see a CHN

I've never been to a child health nurse. For my DD I just weighed her at the chemist. For my DS...ummm...I didn't weigh him :o Except at Immunisations.

If you have concerns, just see your GP

Of course you don't have to! I never saw a CHN with my first and never saw the need to. I see one now with my DD because we had a few feeding problems early on and now I just really like her. She isn't close by but she's great and really helpful. I also like weighing DD on her scales because then I get an accurate picture of her weight gain, compared to using different scales all the time - but you can easily do that just by weighing at the same chemist when you want to.

You don't have to do anything, they're you're babies ;)

I have two and neither of them have ever been near a MCHN even once. Not ever lol.

There are some good ones out there but most of them really have no idea...they just undermine mum's confidence and make them feel that they don't know what they're doing with their own kids :(

If you dont want to go, then dont :)

I went twice to a CHN, then started seeing DS' GP instead. The CHN's made me so uncomfortable and feel like I was a stupid mother who didn't know anything.

I wont be going near one this time around.

No you don't have to. I never went with my 2nd after a terrible experience with my 1st :( but there are great CHN out there, you just have to find them. It's a shame so many people have bad experiences with them.

Absolutely not. I went regular as clockwork with my first. Very infrequently with my second and once with third. I reckon a good network of friends is far superior to a CHN:yes:

we don't go, we have enough contact with the medical world as it is.
with a GP, pead and most of all a great physio a CHN really becomes pointless

They're really good to go to for the first baby as they can give lots of advice, tell you what is available in the neighbourhood for children, and best of all they organise the mothers' group to go to. Plus my local one has more time to spend than our GP discussing my children.

I think it depends on the individual nurse... if you know the ones near you are no good then you are not going to gain anything by going. But if you don't know them then I'd recommend at least meeting one or two. I ahve had the same nurse for all 3 of my children and she is wonderful. I come out of there every time feeling like I am the best mum in the world with the most gorgeous, talented, lovely children around! Every single time that has happened, for over 7 years! And any question I have I just phone and leave a message and she calls me back the same day... not a service I would get from a GP. So good ones are out there, and if you can find one it is the best.
Good luck.

Nurses are there for a reason. I feel better knowing that someone is keeping an eye on my baby and has checked her consistenly throughout.

I know some people have had bad experiences. Personally, I like to tick the boxes and get standard stuff checked. That's just me...

I had a bad experience with my local CHN so I asked my Lactation Consultant who she'd suggest I try and she told me of a couple others that were only 5 min more by car, and I have since found a lovely CHN who I feel I can trust and she is very good at her job.

So, I'd say...shop around:laughing:. Or don't go if you don't feel the need. All your choice in the end.

:iagree: you dont have too if you do not want too .. I go regularly and find it really helpful but then being from the country its a bit more personal .. maybe if I was in the city I wouldnt find it so comfortable
