Seeing as we're going to be in this rental house through winter and spring, I want to plant some bulbs (or tubers etc) to flower in the spring. But have no clue what works here  Tulips I'm sure, but what else? Back in Canada I'd be putting in crocus, daffodils and snow drops plus some others.

And when do I plant them? I'm guessing in about a month when the weather is more consistently cool?

You can plant tulips, daffodils, hyacinths (love the fragrance), jonquils, iris...the list is virtually endless.
There's a place in Silvan called Tesselaar's tulip farm and they have a tulip festival every year which is absolutely stunning. Lots of dancing, food, music and there are even days especially for the kids.
They also have a website where you can order bulbs for delivery, and they give you lots of information about planting & caring for your plants.

Yes, you would love the tulip farm Martha, it's great. There are also a few places you can go raspberry picking on the way, but I'm not sure if they're in season at the same time as the tulips.

Daffodils are lovely too. Do you have a good nursery? They'll be able to tell you what grows best in your suburb - depends on frosts etc.

I've spotted a few nurseries around but they're not exactly close and I haven't been into them yet. One more thing on my to-do list. Thanks for the suggestions.
