Hiya

Won't go into my long and arduous story but my dd2 had an oral aversion which we had started to overcome in the last 4weeks or so and even were able to get rid of the ngt.

She has/is sick with a cold that seems to have grabbed hold of her throat and is lingering around for a while.

Had her at the gp twice now and he said its just viral and that she will just need to work through it.

The thing is is that it has either caused or coincided with her drop off of all feeds again.
She was drinking 100-120mls a feed of neocate (which isn't alot) to now only taking 60mls if I am lucky. She also was going really well on solids etc and now is just starting to lose interest in this too and the refusal is starting up.

Her bowels and reflux seem to be fine and she is not in any discomfort compared to where she has come from but boy I am strung out about it.

I am watching her for dehydration and don't know how long to go for before contacting our pead. I don't want the tube again but if it gets food into her I guess its the only way. I worry about her pulling it out now more as she is older and she was pulling it out enough herself a month or so ago when she last had it. We are going to be replacing it constantly if this happens.

I just don't know what to do and didn't honestly find the speech pathologist all that helpful with this situation etc....

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh any advice at all??

I weighed her two weeks ago and she was 7.3kgs at just over 6mths which is right on the 50th percentile. I am going to do a weigh today at home and see what she is now at almost 7mths.

Help...im in tears again over this..

Hiya, think u know my story already!!! It's really common for colds to make them go backwards, Megan stops tolerating milk when unwell too, luckily we can still tube fed her gastrolyte to hydrate her. Without the gastrostomy we would be lost. My daughter has never taken oral feeds though. In relation to dehydration, would go in asap and get a tube, If it gets bad enough u will need a cannular which is far worse than a tube!!! Also it will stop the pressure u will need to put on when she is unwell, that can also make the whole thing worse.

I can't remember where u live, If in Sydney can recommend a couple of good speechies, Or contact your hospital for a feeding clinic!!!

I know how frustrating the whole thing is....20 steps forward, 18 back, but that is still 2 ahead!!! Have they taught u how to do your own NG tubes??? Then u could sort it yourself???
