My 3 year old son was beautifully potty trained 3 months ago, but about a month ago he regressed and refuses to poo in the toilet (although he wees there with great pride). He has a nappy for sleeps and if he doesn't poo in that, he'll just poo in his underpants, leaving me with a foul job to clean up.

I have tried explaining to him that poos in the toilet are great, tried a reward system and tried telling him off (I know, not ideal, but it is frustrating!)

Can anyone who's been here before offer any suggestions as I'd like to train my 2 year old daughter as well, but want to ensure her brother is fully trained so she wont learn his bad habits.

My 3 yr old DD does the same thing - although she does poo in the toilet sometimes!!

I have tried everything with her too!!

One thing that someone said to me (or maybe I read it somewhere) was that they havea limited understanding of poo and the fact that it is something the body has to get rid of but when they do it in the toilet (because it falls in) they may have fears that it is something falling out of their body.

It made sense to me (if I put myself in her shoes) and I have been explaining to her that her body needs to poo and the best way to do it without too much mess or it feeling yucky in her knickers is to go in the toilet. This has helped to get her on the right track but I still have my :fingerscrossed: that she gets the hang of it soon because, like you, I have been frustrated and I am sick of cleaning pooey undies - could there be a worse mummy job to do???
