I am not sure how Dr.s decide on how many embryos should be transfered. do any Dr.s refuse, I mean we are paying for these treatments and I believe we should have the choice, as long as long as we are imformed.
anyone argued with dr about this? I know when I get to this stage I will be speaking my mind and hope Dr Understands. I am seeing Dr M. Gronow at MIVF. What do you think, I would be interested to see what others think! Thanks

Hi Byronsprincess,

It will depend on the clinic you go to and the policies they have in place. As you would know there are increased chances for multiple births with IVF and as such, increased chances for complications for both you and your babies if that does occur. A lot of clinics presently are taking these risks quite seriously and have put policies in place for their clinics to try to control this. Of course it will be between you and your Dr how many are transferred, but if the clinic has a strict policy, quite often they will stick to that regardless I think.

A friend of mine went to Monash IVF in Brisbane and she was only given the option of 1 and they were quite strict about that. Whereas for me, I went to QFG and whilst it was strongly recommended to only transfer 1, ultimately the decision was up to me. As I said, it will definatley depend on the clinics policies, your age, your medical history, the quality of your fertilised eggs etc and this will all be discussed with you prior to EPU and ET by both your Dr and scientist. I hope this makes sense??? Lots of :ecomcity::ecomcity: in there!!!

Goodluck with your cycle!! :fingerscrossed:

Hi Byronsprincess....
becster05 has pretty much said it all it will depend on your clinic and what policies they have in place, my clinic also allows you to transfer 2 if you choose but prefer to only do one. Except when you are one of there "older ladies" as they have so delicately put it to me on more than one o
occassion , they say that we will have a slightly better chance if we go the twoer!!! as the shell around them is a little bit tougher. (sounds like i'm talking about an old chooks egg down at the farm) well that may not be to far from the truth..... lol

goodluck! :shakehands:

Hi, I am with Melb IVF too. When we were trying for our first baby we did 6 cycles. Out of these we put in 2 embryos for 4 cycles with no issues. Now we are going onto our 4th FET for baby no.2 and my FS isn't too pleased about us putting in 2. We are going to for this next cycle though.

I went through Dr Gronow when I was pregnant with DS, he was my obstetrician and he is wonderful. You will be happy with him.:flowerz:

Good luck xoxo:fingerscrossed:

byronsprincess as becster05 and shadsmum have said it depends on your clinic, I am going to SIVF Newcastle and they have a strict 1 embryo policy only. They say it has increased their success rates for live births and carrying to full term, aparently their are alot of risks with twins.

However even if you only have 1 embie put back you still have about a 5% more risk of having twins than the average jo.

Best of luck with what you decide :)

im with QFG and they reccomend that 1 gets put in. i had to argue to get my way. he did say that if i do fall with more, he will terminate the pregnancy. HA like i would let him. not going through all this for him to terminate!

:iagree: carla84- wow i can't believe he would not only say that to you but also expect you to let him do that if you did end up with twins, and if they were perfectly healthy what would be his arguement to terminate....
Goodluck!!!!

Hi Byronsprincess,

I too see M. Gronow at MIVF. I love him by the way, he doesnt give you too much info, but I think he is great!

He didnt seem to have a problem with us whether we went two or one.

Our doctor will allow 2 if you are over 35. Also you have to write a letter stating that is what you require.

Good luck

thanks so much for the great info! I already have 3 happy healthy children aged 13 11 and 9, I concieved them all naturally, unfortunately my new DH has had a vasectomy and are going to be using ICSI IVF. We have a two week wait to see him for our first app. Do you think we should go get our Blood Tess done while we are waiting to see him. What tests do we need done? I have alot of thinking to do!! If I am able to chose!

HI Byronsprincess,

There is blood testing at MIVF, and Michael will probably write you out a form while you are then and send you up! He doesnt muck around much. I would wait, as they will require specific tests to be done, and will probably want to order them. You will need to have an appointment with the counsellor, the nurse and accounts before you start IVF, dont worry, it will all be explained to you. We are doing ICSI also. Welcome to the journey.... !

Im happy to answer any questions you have.

Hi byronsprincess - I went through MIVF at the womens and we were definitely not allowed to transfer more than one at a time because they say you have a higher risk of multiple birth if you transfer more than one & i was under 30 so there was no consideration. I had just one little embryo transferred at my last FET and I am preg with twins.....You never know what might happen. Good luck!!
