Hi girls,
For the last couple of months I have been getting horrendous sinus pain, blocked nose especially at night (soooo annoying when trying to sleep) and often have small amounts of blood when blowing my nose. But just today at work I had a big nosebleed...Blood everywhere...eeek!
It was rather scary, thankfully I am over the weak stomach thing and luckily I had no customers at the time!
Is this normal at my stage of pregnancy (23 weeks) and is it just a hormonal thing?
I have asked my dr and paharmacist if there is anything I can take, but they didn't really offer any solutions...
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

yip it can be normal in pregnancy, as our blood increases during pregnancy our little blood vessils in our noses can't cope very well, and often break causing bleeding

but also it can be a sign of your blood pressure going up quite high, and if you've already got high blood pressure you might want to get checked out

just when you see your OB/GP/MW next mention it to them

oh and the blocked nose can be normal too, don't ask me why though, but I know heaps of people that have had heaps of blocked noses while preg even myself, drove me up the wall

Jolenje- I have exactly the same thing. My nose is really blocke, especially at night, and when I blow there is blood in it. And the sinuses and my nose hurt a lot. But I've had that since the biginning of this pregnancy, so I guess it is normal????

I haven't actually asked anyone about it as I just assumed it is normal in PG???

Hope it gets better for you soon.

Having blocked sinus' is very normal in pregnancy because of the hormonal changes.

The nosebleed could be because you blew too hard and burst some blood vessels, it could be because of blood pressure probs (as previously mentioned :)), it could be because of haemoglobin levels, it could be absolutely nothing to worry about at all. If you're concerned, its best to get it checked out though :)

Thanks girls,

I feel somewhat better about it now...though I had another nosebleed yesterday...in front of DP, I think he was a little freaked out!
My blood pressure is okay as far as I know, doc has been checking each time and hasn't said it's abnormal...
I am due to have my haemoglobin test done in a few weeks so we'll play it by ear until then.
Thanks for your replies!
:hugs:
